Canon reveals the G7 X Mark II and SX720 HS PowerShot cameras
In case you need more than a smartphone to take pictures.
Aside from introducing the EOS 80D DSLR, Canon has two more cameras to launch today: the PowerShot G7 X Mark II and SX720 HS. Both are part of the company's popular line of point-and-shoots, though one model is definitely more premium than the other. We're talking about the G7 X Mark II, of course, a successor to the compact shooter that was introduced in 2014. This G7 X sports a 20.1-megapixel, 1-inch CMOS sensor and a newly developed DIGIC 7 processor, which promises to go hand-in-hand with an improved phase detection and motion tracking autofocus system.
Canon's G7 X Mark II also features a 24-100mm (f/1.8-2.8) fixed lens with 4.2x optical zoom, as well as 1080p 60 fps video, up to 12,800 ISO (25,600 expandable), NFC, WiFi and a high-res 3-inch LCD. For its part, the SX720 HS comes with a 20.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, a decent DIGIC 6 image processor and a 24-960mm lens with 40x optical zoom -- that's impressive considering how small the camera is. Video-wise, it shoots 1080p at 24, 30 and 60 fps, plus there's a 3-inch screen, NFC and WiFi, for when you need to share photos wirelessly to an iOS or Android smartphone.
If you like either of these PowerShots, the G7 X Mark II ships in May for $700, while the SX720 HS is expected to arrive in March for $400.
