I know I, for one, am buying a Revolution on launch. I don't plan on buying a 360, and I won't buy a PS3 for at least a year or two after its launch. And, when I count the dozen or so hardcore gamers I know, only two bought a 360 at launch and one of them hasn't even unpacked the box yet. Remember: The Dreamcast was an excellent system with a great games library... and then it died when the PS2 came around. The 360 could have the same performance (though I suspect MS would try one last time and release a third console before finally throwing in the towel).

My predictions for the PS3?

1) We'll see more at E3, and the laucnh will probably be in the fall in Japan, but possibly worldwide (I doubt that somehow);

2) No more that $399 at launch. Even if they lose another $399 per box, they won't price the console any higher than what the Core 360 goes for.

3) I suspect, and some of Rockstar's comments seem to follow this idea, that there will be a "Grand Theft Auto" launch title (if that happens, I will be buying a PS3 at launch... I guarantee it).

Guess we'll just have to wait and see, hmmm?

Geoffrey Sperl

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

Thanks for the fact fixes, Entrance and dave.

Paul Boutin

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

#24: "2) No more that $399 at launch. MS said they will sell 2-3 mill in 90 days now they say 4-5 mill by Summer, Bill Gates himself said on CNN that if u didnt get a 360 this christmas just wait till next christmas becuase then we will have it in stores.

And I also agree that Sony's Ps3 will launch for about 399 but no more than 499.

Best example look at the PSP when they showed it at E3 everyone said "omg how much will it cost $500?,its gonna be soo expensive...: Yea well it launched with the VALUE PACK w/ a bunch of stuff for $250. Running at 60fps is NOT part of the HDTV spec... and it doesn't matter for movies anway. Film is converted from 24 to 30 fps, then each frame is simply doubled to give you 60fps.

With games, however, 60fps is important (duh). I think that's why Sony is showing it off from the PS3. If games can actually run at 1920x1080p/60fps, that will be a major step indeed! (And besides, Sony is showing off "HighER definition" so they're pushing past the max of the HDTV spec.)

There's one problem though: you need to purchase a 1080p TV that (a) can take 1080p input and (b) can display 1080p/60. Those ain't easy to come by right now.

-Pie

EatingPie

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

nothing was mentioned about sonyericsson products? p990?

g

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

Is the Press Conference over?

Behzad

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

the reason why the PSP debut at $250 is becasue sony just like there PS2 model have a TEN YEAR plan for it the PSP will start turning a profit after ten years, just like the PS2 is now, Enagdget it would help if you guys screened these retarded comments out.

PEOPLE A DIGITAL ENGINEER say that it would be impossible from a mathmathical stand point for the PS3 to push out 1080p native, the RSX is a 7800 GTX bulit to talk to a cell chip instead of a Intel chip

sony took a shit a long time ago, now there just sucking up air.

I give my hat off to nintedo for keep the industry afloat with inovations, but agian MS will win out, they have all the money and the support behind them.

joe

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

p990i info all u could ever want is here!!!

warning hot girls:

http://www.bengalboy.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=316&start=0

contaygious

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

As an e-book seller, I am anxious to see how the new Sony reader - with it's electronic paper - will impact readership of e-books.

Our site, www.DPPSTORE.com, offers the best in e-books from independant authors and publishers...and all of our books are offered in .pdf formats, which the new Sony reader will support.

Catherine Hodge

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

I would love to see an affordable E-book reader for all school children.

Galley

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

Happy Birthy Lil' Jimmy!

Doug

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

Sony know the deal with there console products. I have some alternative (and more accurate) answers to your questions.

Who gave us game backwards compatability straight out of the box first........ Sony

You're right, but only because it was the very first time that the exact same medium was being used in two different generations. Previously, the cartridge sizes and speeds were changing from one generation to the next, so different cartridge add-on slots were necessary. Sega was actually the first company to offer backwards compatibility between the Genesis and the Master System. As explained, however, this required an add-on cartridge converter.

Who let us use the original ps1 duel shock on the ps2....... Sony

Yippee. However, you forgot to mention the fact that the PS1 controllers lacked certain functionality that the PS2 ones offered. Therefore, what was even the point?

Who gave us a online service (when they didn't even need to).......... Sony

What online service? PS2 DOES NOT HAVE ONE! The online functionality for PS2 games is provided by the individual game developers. There is no singular online service. The ONLY systems with a cohesive, defined online service have been the Dreamcast, Xbox, and Xbox 360.

Who is trying to drag there consoles lifespans out for a decent ammount of time, instead of cutting it by another 2 years, like our friends MS........Sony

Only because they were caught off-guard and did not have enough time to thoroughly research/develop their next-gen machine in time..... The PS3 will not launch until Fall 2006 in Japan ONLY- you won't see the PS3 in the US/Europe before 2007.

scubafanatic

Comments on Live coverage of Sony's Sir Howard Stringer

Boo...
