Anyone want to comment about the headphones?

I heard about these on Major Nelson's podcast (show #342). He interviewed someone from Tritton, and the AX Pros sounded like they were really good. I like that they are "real" Dolby 5.1 with separate speakers. After hearing about the gdgt review, I wanted to compare them to the Astro Gaming A40 and the Turtle Beach Ear Force X41 headphones.

Looking at the instructions for the AX Pro, it looks like both the headphones and the audio controller need an AC adapter. Maybe so that both sides can use a fiber optic cable?

I found them on Amazon for $180. It seemed like a good price, but some of the reviews complained about the mic breaking. They also didn't like dealing with Tritton that much. The fact that gdgt couldn't get a review unit was also worrying.

I would love to hear any of your experiences with the headphones, the Tritton company, or anything else.

Thanks in advance,

I cannot comment on the AX Pro specifically, as I have the older AX360, but I can discuss the mic and customer service.

My mic broke after about a year of near daily use. Specifically, the plug part fell apart. I went to the tritton support site, and submitted a ticket saying that my mic broke. The next day I got an email asking for which type of mic I had (there are two hardware revisions of the AX360), I told them, and they sent out a replacement mic the next day. It took about a week to reach me, which was a little inconvenient, but understandable.

Overall, I would rate the customer service an 8 or 9 out of 10. Your mileage may vary, of course.

I tried e-mailing Tritton to get more information. I didn't get a response from them. I waited a bit to see if anyone else would respond on here, but I didn't really hear from anyone else. I ended up saving up and getting the Astro Gaming A40.

I appreciate your comments, though.
