Hexxeh, do you need to do anything extra for an sd card? I tried writing the image to an SD card but it wouldn't boot (boot from sd was set in eeepc bios)

The idea with an operating-system is to create a suite of device-handlers that will work on just about every machine.. What good does an "operating system" do, when only supporting drivers from an already installed OS, in this case the few virtual devices that a vmware environment gives? You cant claim the boot-time is seconds, when you actually have to load both this "OS" and the host OS?

I've got it running on an eee 901 but it wont enable the wireless either. the FAQ talks about messing with Connman but I can't find any info on this of use.

Hexxeh,

Your Chromium OS build works great!

Followed instructions for Linux

Booted on my HP P4 MidTower

working now on getting my Linux system with the right build environment

for now I have a build to test

Actually left in running and my wife sat down and started research on WebMB.com and did not even realize she was not using WindowsXP

Very Cool!

Thanks

After some fiddling I got it installed on my netbook (Eee PC 1000H). It seems to run fine, the biggest problem I currently have is enabling wireless. Each time I try, wireless fails to enable after a 15 second hang. Anyone else get it installed and have a similar problem?

Without some fairly difficult changes, you can't right now. If you have a USB drive to hand though, that'll work just as well if not better, as changes can be saved.

Would you mind letting me know what you made the sudo password on your bootable usb version?

and the reason is that you uploaded instructions and files that will only work for someone that has a building environment for chromeos as it appears at sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/dev/chromium-os/bu...

I will look into it later. For now everyone should just go with hexxeh's version

I've compiled my own version here, which can be installed to a USB drive from Windows/Linux/Mac and easy instructions provided for all. Have fun guys and don't forget to use the Digg and Tweet links!

run vmware on a usb hard drive. I have used virtualbox and VMware. I have only deployed bootable USB on VMware. the vmware forums have a ton of support for your project as does the help menu inside of the app. I used it to deploy vista package to remote agents. The permissiona nd image control is quite amazing!

good luck!

I found an easy way to get this VM loaded on a USB or SD card.
1. You take a tool like WinImage and convert the VMDK to an IMA or IMG file.
2. Then, do a "restore disk image to drive" and write the IMG or IMA file to the USB drive or SD card.
3. I put it on an SD card and booted up my EeePC to Chromium OS.

You will need to connect your system to a copper, DHCP enabled Ethernet that can get out to the internet so you can login with your Google account. Then, once the system remembers your ID, you can login with the network disconnected so you can choose a WiFi network. The network HAS to be open with NO encryption or WEP and the SSID needs to be visible. I haven't figured out how to get it to work with WEP, WPA, or even a hidden SSID so I've had to resort to MAC access lockdown.

Cheers!
