Case or cover suggestions?

Just ordered a case yesterday on Amazon ($9/free Prime shipping). Was afraid to invest too much money since I'm sure more cases will start showing up on the market soon. Anyone have any suggestions for cases they love? Not so concerned with the material but I think I want one that flips open/closed and can double as a prop/stand.

I ordered this case from Amazon www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008D2Q8RG/ref=oh_detail...

It is a very nice case and uses the auto on/off via magnet in the case well.

However it makes the Nexus 7 so damn thick and opens awkwardly. I will use this case until the official ASUS case is released and then hope that their case is a better fit for this small form factor.

Hope this helps.

Cool... Thanks. Will keep that one in mind if this one doesn't work out. I ordered this one: www.amazon.com/dp/B008I2QKVK/ref=pe_175190_2143176...

When you say "official" case what do you mean? Isn't the one they are selling in the Google Play store the "official" case? I've heard they are likely to offer it in different colors but hadn't heard anything about other styles yet.

Your case looks much better than mine. Mine is set for a landscape view, and as we know the Nexus 7 does not spend much time like that. It would be great for watching movies or something, but for everyday use, the way my cover opens, it just gets in the way in portrait mode.

The one on the play store (the one I refereed to as the official case) https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexu...?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDExMSwiZGV2aWNlLW5leHVzXzdfY292ZXIiXQ..

is not yet available....if it uses the smart cover, i think this may be the way to go, because it looks like it will keep the slim form factor. My case makes my tablet over an inch thick - which defeats the purpose.

I have the official case. It's a lot heavier than I like. I think the 7 was a fine weight naked, but with this case it feels more like a Kindle fire.

It's weighty.

I think I will sell this case if someone can come up with a non-bulky, light case.

To answer your question, no, it does not have a smart cover feature. I can post pics somewhere to show you the thickness. Not sure how images are handled here..

Sorry for the delay, but here are a few photos I took at work. Tried to get a bunch showing the device in and out of the case as well as some pics showing the thickness of the 7 while in the case.

Another problem with this case is that it covers the side buttons and has its own rubberized ones sticking out. They're kind of mushy. Makes you unsure when you have successfully hit the volume buttons.

Great pictures! Thank you for taking the time to post these.

Does this case have the wake/sleep function? It looks like it's probably too thin to house the magnet but I could be wrong.

I don't think the button thing would bother me too much but I certainly see what you mean. My cell phone case is similar to that and it's something I think I'd get used to quickly.

Sadly this case does not have smartcover functionality. It's weird that it doesn't, right? Considering this is the only official case they are selling.

Yeah, I had a feeling it didn't have that functionality but figured I'd ask. Seems like they haven't talked about the fact that the Nexus 7 can even do that. It wasn't until I started seeing third party cases come out that I realized it could do it. Pleasant surprise!

ahhh... ok. I didn't realize it was still listed as Coming Soon. I like the idea of the slim and that this covers the front when stored but I think I'd be missing the prop/stand functionality sometimes. I have a kickstand on my phone case and it does come in handy. I probably don't use it as much as I think I do but I like having it anyway. lol

Holly - After seeing a coworker with one of these for her kindle - I gave it a try and I am sold on it. Exactly what I want for my Nexus 7. I can hold it and have it be the slim form factor that I love, and I can store and travel with it and have it safe. Just thought I would pass on to you.

Thanks! I think I'm still going for the idea of one that has a flip cover of some sort. Like the one I got from Amazon. I think it will be easier to deal with on my commute in the NYC subway system. Easier to just flip the cover and store it fast on the go. I'm too afraid of dropping it at this point so taking it in and out of the sleeve makes me nervous.

I just got my case from Amazon today. Seems to fit well and all ports/buttons are accessible. Haven't spent much time with it so it remains to be seen how I like it overall. But so far for $9 I can't really complain!

hollyhock, that's a nice looking case. Does it do the auto-wake thing?

Yes, the case does have the wake/sleep function for when you open/close it. Seems to work great. I've been using the case for a few days now and am super impressed so far. Especially for the $9 sale price that I paid. I just can't see spending $40-$50 or more on a case but at the same time I want something nice.
