I own a Galaxy Nexus and an HP tm2t (tablet with active digitizer). I used the tablet for pen-based note-taking but really have little use for it now that I've graduated. The screen isn't great and it's so heavy that I've caught myself browsing more with my phone. I was thinking of waiting until later this year to replace it with a Surface but since the Nexus 7 is looking so (unexpectedly) great, I'm considering getting one as an impulse buy. What do you think? Is there a need for this device when I already have a big phone and a clunky windows tablet? Is the tablet sweet spot a real thing?
The main advantages are the fact that it's cheap enough to not feel major guilt about getting one, it has a high-quality screen for reading news and watching Youtube, and a great processor for gaming. Downsides are that it's only mildly bigger than my phone (limited additional utility) and has a phone-like interface, so it may just end up seeming superfluous. I'll wait to see how it feels in person.
I understand where you are coming from Dan. I am having the same internal struggle. I really like what I have seen of the Nexus 7 but I already own a Galaxy Nexus.
Everything that I can do on the Nexus 7 I can already do on my Galaxy Nexus - which is large for a phone. In addition, the Nexus 7 only has 80 additional pixels in the width in comparison to the Galaxy Nexus - meaning I am not going to be seeing a large jump in terms of resolution going to a Nexus 7 to digest media, only a jump in size.
I don't currently own a tablet of any kind but I do have a netbook that I carry around as a university student. I just don't see a 7 inch tablet being sufficiently different enough from my current phone to provide reason to have both on me. I am going to check out the Nexus 7 when a coworker gets his pre-ordered unit delivered and do a reality check.
However, at this point, I have relegated myself to realizing that a 10 inch tablet is the kind of device I would prefer that would offer a different enough experience from my Galaxy Nexus. In fact, I will probably wait and grab a Surface as then that provides a Windows experience that adds greater differentiation between the functions of my phone and my tablet.
Good call. I'll wait until I can see it up close in a retail store. I'd use it mostly for reading news with apps like Pocket and Feedly. With gadgets like this it's impossible to get a sense of the size without seeing it personally.
I don't think you would actually need it like you need air to breath but you want it is a good enough reason to buy it as an upgrade to your older tab like me i have galaxy 10.1 64gb wifi tab and have pre ordered the nexus 7 why i don't need it my tab now is only 5weeks old but i want it. So no you do not need it but it will be nice to have it.
Yeah, as others posted on this page, it's kind of an impulse buy. So I'm going to wait a month and see if I still want it then. If so, I'll probably spring for it as an early birthday present to myself!
i understand it's for 2weeks then they will be back on sale, i also heard there is a problem with the screen as it lifts up at the corner due to heat on them so thats why they will take 2weeks as thats getting fixed by Asus.
