E3 reveals?

So, we're about two months away from E3 (Paris Fashion Week for games, for the uninitiated), what do you want to see from Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony? Given that everyone's new hardware is out in the wild, the focus this year is likely going to be on games, games, games, games and possibly a bit of VR.

No one knows what any of the platform holders have in store for this fall, but there are a handful of third-party games that've been announced so far: Batman Arkham Knight, Lord of the Rings Shadow of Mordor, The Evil Within, Destiny and something else that's escaping me at the moment.

Here are my predictions for fall titles from each of the hardware makers. Sony feels the easiest to guess at for me, but Microsoft and Nintendo are absolute wildcards.
  • Sony: Uncharted 4, The Order: 1866, DriveClub and a bunch of indies and downloadables.
  • Microsoft: Sunset Overdrive, (possibly) Forza Horizon 2 although that's wishful thinking in my part and really I don't know what else. I'd be very surprised if Halo 5 hit this fall.
  • Nintendo: I'm just going to make some wild guesses here: Zelda U, a new 3D Mario for Wii U, more info on Mario Kart ans Smash Bros. I can't say that I follow the 3DS scene very closely, but I have a feeling that that will play a big part of the company's focus too, as it has in past years. I'd realy love a reason to get excited about owning a Wii U, however. Just gimme one, Iwata!
What about you guys and gals? Any hopes, dreams and desires for announcements from the show?

External hard drive support and DVR capability on the Xbox One. Possibly a white or all-digital model.
Wii U price slash-comes without Wii compatibility just like the Wii Family Edition without Gamecube functionality.
PS4 Morpheus info-possibly computer connection like how MS has Kinect for Windows?
Sales end of X360, but PS3 will be sold for a loooonnnnggg time.
I have wondered about a DS remake. Maybe not at E3, but I bet eventually Nintendo will make a 3D 5.5-6 inch gaming device running Android

Hope to see an epic Killer Instinct trailer for whats to come in Season 2, this is going to be very big for the game since Iron Galaxy has been selected to be the developers for the game from here on out, I have little doubt that it will be nothing less than EPIC!

WiiU is great! I just need to use it more! Need to see new Zelda and would love Mario Galaxy 3.

Every E3, there is only one thing I hope to see, which I may never, and that is a remake of Final Fantasy VI using the same (or similar) engine used to make the DS Final Fantasy IV for 3DS (or DS since I have been waiting for it that long). There have been a few comments made by execs that indicate Square Enix knows a lot of people want this. Maybe if Ray Kurzweil figures out that life extension tech fast enough then I can live long enough to finally see the dream come true.

Oh man, I'm guessing you've watched the doc The Transcendent Man? That whole thing creeped me out really badly. I mean, Kurzweil's intentions are noble (bringing his dad back to "life" via an AI), but it just rubs me wrong in general.

Yes, believe me, I am more disturbed by Kurzweil's goals than anyone else I know, which is why I can make a sarcastic joke about it. See my post on leaving Google for more on that.

Man, that's a killer post. Seriously, very well-written and well-thought out. Have you read "The Lost World" by Crichton? There's a great monologue by Malcolm where he says that the internet will be the death of creativity and bring our society to a grinding halt because everyone will be thinking the same thing at the same time, trumping intellectual diversity. Sort of related, but still worth checking out regardless.

Wow, that's brilliant. I have been told I need to read some Crichton. Time to add to my reading list.

But yeah, Crichton uses Malcolm (especially in the second book) to voice basically everything he wants to say himself. There are some pretty big logic gaps in how Malcolm is the main character in The Lost World (read Jurassic Park and you'll see why), but his monologues in both books are pretty fantastic.

What's most impressive, perhaps, is that The Lost World was written in 1995. His last three or four books were really preachy and his political ideas shone through pretty hard, but everything else (aside from Timeline) is very very good. I cut my teeth on Crichton and Benchley as a kid (Jurassic Park was the second novel I read, I was eight) so maybe I'm a bit biased, though. Andromeda Strain is a great place to start, it's a really quick read and it's still quite relevant. If you'd rather stay away from tech almost entirely, Rising Sun is also a good jumping off point.

Yeah, Timeline wasn't very very good, it was great. ;)

Too bad the movie completely botched it, because it felt like it was written as a screenplay instead of a novel (which I suppose might be why you didn't like it).

It felt sooooo predictable, I had to skip the first few chapters because they just weren't going anywhere :) I typically like the time period and setting, but the book did close to nothing for me the first time I read it. Maybe I should give it another chance.

Also, from the first chapters I read of Pirate Latitudes there was a pretty clear reason he never had it published while he was alive. His other posthumous book was co-written with another author, whom I presume finished the story? I haven't really looked into much more of it, but I'd be curious to check it out.

More information about Assassin's Creed Unity and (especially) Assassin's Creed Comet. I don't have a PS4/Xbox One yet, so something for my current PS3 is interesting to me, and hey, it's supposed to be set in New York and apparently Haytham's in it...

I will continue to get my hopes up only to have them dashed. It's become a bit of a joke amongst my gaming friends because we know it wont see the light of day anytime soon.
