My wife and I thought about doing this with our house, but decided just to use the WIFI.
Yeah, I think that's perfectly reasonable. Just from a geeky standpoint, I WANT ALL THE NETWORK SPEED.
But also, so we could more centrally locate our wifi router, rather than being in front of the house and stuck inside our crowded entertainment center.
That's some really nice baseboard :D
It's not so fun when you get stuck adding it to a newer house that has firebreaks in the walls and is not raised up off the ground. :/ That's when you can easily find yourself willing to try a powerline ethernet adapter after all.
In a rental property now and I wanted to get my NAS out of my living room so I went the MoCA route (Fios supports it). I tried powerline as well and the speeds are about the same, so we just stuck with MoCA.
Will Cat 6 support Google Fiber? I'm crossing my fingers fiber comes to Oakland soon...
Your run of the mill ethernet cable will handle gigabit. At a previous job I would plug into gigabit jacks all the time with cheap ethernet cables and get a gig connection.
Did you have all the required tools or are you now entering that stage in your life where OSH becomes your favorite place to shop?
