I agree to the fullest about this. I installed this on my Eris and it works like a charm. It about time google. Great job
That is great to hear. I really liked what they did with it based on the pictures but I haven't actually used it yet because I am terrified of entering Best Buy during the holidays. I am excited to try it as soon as Gingerbread finally hits my device. I always wait for the OTA updates. Maybe Google will surprise me and I'll have a nice present waiting for me when I wake up my phone on Christmas morning.
You can just download the .apk It's out now. I'm running it on my G1 and it's great!
ddo you see the difference multi touch makes?
I have a G1 and it's been disconnected for almost 1 1/2 years now. So I don't use it as often as I used to. I have to use Wi-Fi to do anything. But when I type, I tend to type with one hand. So I haven't really noticed a difference in that aspect. But I really do like the keyboard. It works better, looks better, and it's a lot faster. Even on such a slow phone, the speed is really good. I prefer this to every other keyboard out there.
What does multi-touch do for keyboards? I never really got why multi-touch was useful for keyboards.
without multitouch, sometimes if you try to type fast one thumb taps before the other one is released, cancelling a keypress and causing an error. I didn't think it was a big deal either until I used this keyboard. I can type away with both thumbs and I get accurate results.
I agree. I still use swype at times when in portrait mode but overall I find myself using the GB keyboard about 90 percent if the time.
Only annoying thing I have found with it is that when I double tap a word to do a word replacement, when I select the word to swap out it doesn't replace the word I double tapped but instead just inserts it in the middle of the text. Anyone else have that issue? Im on an N1.
The one thing that swype holds over most other keyboards is the fact that I can use it with one hand quickly and efficiently. I do like the new keyboard, but I just can't get back into having to type with two hands. Gingerbread is looking good (I plan on flashing it on my Incredible once some more features are up and running), but we are all still just waiting for honeycomb and 3.0 goodness.
When I started using swype, it was for the same reason (typing one handed). But with the word recognition I can still type faster with GB one handed.
