I also have the 1st gen Jawbone and have generally been happy with it. The one aspect of its design I don't care for is the LED that constantly blinks while the headset is on. It's very distracting in low light situations. Could someone who's bought the ICON comment on this issue? Does the ICON also have an LED? If so, where is it and how does it behave while in use?
Thanks for the replies, everyone.
I don't have the Icon yet, but I believe the LED is on the inside of the headset so others won't be able to see it while you're wearing it.
They added a feature on the Jawbone II that lets you turn off the blinking LED while in the standby mode.
If you are about to buy the Icon, Jawbone is running a promotion for free overnight shipping: "get free overnight shipping (promo code): GETICONTWITTER131 "
I love the LED. It lets you know it's on, and the design of the LED on Jawbones is beautiful.
Also, the blinking LED is a gentle reminder not to wear the headset all the time when you're not on a call. It's kind of a "not a douche" reminder.
Can't speak to what it's like driving in a car (since I don't own a car and rarely drive), but I find that the ICON fits pretty well for me.
fwiw. I've had the 1st Jawbone and I'm using the 2nd Jawbone now. It wasn't until the "JAWBONE NEW FIT EARBUD" that the fit was really good. It was frustrating before, and I feel the 1st Jawbone was the worst with the ear loop (hard to get on my ear quickly). With my current setup on my 2nd-gen Jawbone, the ear loop isn't necessary, and with the New Fit Earbud, it fits in my ear just fine. From the looks of the Jawbone website, it looks like both the Jawbone Prime and Jawbone Icon have the new style earbud that works well.
I just purchased the ICON a few days ago. So far, so good. I was a little curious about the battery life though. A little sporadic, anyone else having the same issue. Call quality extremely good....every call I have made using it gets the response that they thought I was actually using handset. iPhone integration & pairing is flawless.
The fit with the ICON vs. the first gen Jawbone is night and day. I really kind of hated the fit of the first gen. I could barely get that thing to stay on my ear and face. But the Jawbone prime and ICON both fit very well, and without an ear loop!
In my case I use the default medium size fitting, just stick it in, and twist, and it stays snug against my face.
Also the volume on the ICON is much louder than the first gen. Also you won't go deaf when the phone rings. The ringer tone in the first gen was way too loud. On the ICON it's very quiet and you get optional caller ID readback (can be turned off via the sync software.)
If you're using a 1st gen jawbone, you must upgrade to the ICON. It's 3 generations better and they've improved with each generation.
I ended up picking it up. I agree with Taylor88 regarding both fit and volume. I also love the dedicated power button. Voice dialing on the iPhone 3GS works really well.
Overall, this is a big jump from the 1st gen, and with a lower price point than the 1st gen's original cost.
