Is it wrong to feel cheated by HP/Palm?
Well, today Palm (HP) announced that we can qualify for a $50 mail-in-rebate for just the $599 32GB TouchPad (not the $499 16GB version). I know people will say that this is better than nothing, but I disagree, this is worse than nothing. It's pretty much a slap in the face to all the owners of the early webOS devices.
It's like telling someone that if they lived in a shack for long enough they'd have the opportunity to move to a real house, then showing them the house was actually a much more expensive mansion, which they'd have to pay (almost) full price for.
To add this frustration, a lot of people have pre-ordered the 16GB version who were early customers, now have to go through the extra hassle of deciding whether or not it's worth it to pay an extra $100 to be later reimbursed $50.
The worse part is, us original Pre owners, if we so decided, can't even take advantage of the webOS integration between the mobile phones/TouchPad (like touch-to-share) since we won't be getting webOS 3.0.
If HP/Palm would have promised nothing, I would've been far less unhappy. At this point, I'm pretty much done with webOS.
Ey, maybe they'll provide ANOTHER discount when the Pre3 comes out. :)
And as far as being slighted, you can get a free veer at the moment, and they are giving you $50 off a tablet. I know us Sprint Pre - Users (I'm one too), want more... like a pre on Sprint, but I think a free phone (even if you have to go to verizon or ATT) and $50 off a tablet isn't too bad of a start for making it right. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that one month after the pre 3 comes out, it will be free our heavily discounted either.
If most webOS users feel the same way you do, everyone I know who has a Pre does, then HP will get what's coming to them. You'll suffer for the 2 years you were stuck with the Pre, though not entirely because I know you have a crap ton of phones, but then you'll move onto a better platform.
