I seriously don't think so. It's the same way I felt about the PS3 and PS3 slim. Already have one, it really doesn't offer any new functionality. Maybe one day, if / when my console dies. But not really considering this as an option right now.
I think you've hit the nail on the head. Maybe when my current one dies, no need to upgrade in the meantime.
But it's not really another $299. It's $299 minus whatever you can get for your old hardware (in my case that seems to currently be somewhere around $200, though that will probably drop when these hit the shelves). So the real question is, are you willing to pay about $100 for one of these. My guess is it depends on when you bought your hardware. If you've got a new system with HDMI and a 120GB HDD, it's probably not all that compelling. If, like many of us, you've got a launch system that only works with component cables and only has a 20GB HDD, and is out of warranty, it's a bit more appealing.
Sorry to burst your bubble but you're dreaming if you think you can get $200 for a 3 year old 20GB Xbox 360. They are sold in the $50-80 range on ebay.

I didn't say $200 for my console. I said $200 for all my hardware, which includes a WiFi adapter and a 120GB HDD, both of which sell for $50-$60 used on Amazon. The console itself is a launch machine though, which means it still doesn't have HDMI, makes a ton of noise, and is out of warranty.
you really shouldn't sell your HDD until you migrate the data also... just so you know....
after that, sell away!! :)
I never thought about it like that. I know I said to Dave there's no need to update, but I am still stuck with a clunky release model. I mean I've had RROD 3 times and it churns out a hell of a noise. I think I'm sat on the fence right now. I need more time to think haha!
I have an original launch console (after 5 repairs/refurbs, still, it's old) and it sounds like a jet engine. That's the only reason I was consider upgrading to the Elite and now the Slim. Then again, I hardly ever play my Xbox 360 anymore and because it's just an upgrade I feel like there are better things to blow my money on... like a new TV, a Nikon D90 or iPhone 4.
Still, looks sexy and the promise of "whisper quiet" certainly appeals to me.
