Keep Your PS2! PS3 Slim has abandoned you!

Sony has guaranteed you will need to keep your PS2 integrated into your entertainment center for the foreseeable future. Its such a pain that theres a million great games for the PS2, while the PS3 is only slowly building its library...

I want a PS2 Slim to add to my collection and add a game system/dvd player somewhere too... now that is a freakishly small system!

Yep, I kept mine (modded). I kinda wanna get the PS2 Slim because...well, it's slim.

Well, I kept mine to play Guitar Hero, but because of the A/V Lag (even with progressive scan) I got frustrated and got the 360 version. I gave my Guitar Heroes to my brother in-law. Figure he and his kids would have more fun with it than I would now.

Even with backwards compatibility, the PS2 Guitar Hero games are ultimate fails on the PS3. You need usb--to-PS2 adapters and none of them work right. It doesn't seem like it would be so hard, but the adapters simply do not work very well. The games play, but the controls are kinda boned...

That sucks, I am glad though all my guitar hero/rockband stuff is on my 360 though.

And whats worse is that Activision didn't give two s**t's about PS2 GH controllers on the PS3. I was PISSED that I couldn't even use the PS3 Guitar Hero Controller on the PS2 versions...that was a big "up yours" from both Sony and Activision...

Yeah i read about that, and thats just stupid, at least most guitar controllers for the 360 work for all the music games.

activision really acted like dickholes with all the guitar hero stuff... I was pretty upset when sony didn't sanction any official PS2 controllers adapters.. really, why didn't it just have the ports itself like the wii had for gamecube controllers... I thought it would be like the Sony PSX DVR I posted on this site - they had full PS2 compatibility on that and memory slots and controllers slots on the back for discreteness... oh well...

I agree, and correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the 360 support the xbox controllers?

Sorry, you are wrong. There is no "official" way to support the original xbox controllers even though they run off of usb basically. I don't know if you made your own adapter or buy a xbox to usb adapter if they will work or not. Xbox didn't support its old memory cards either. They were both pretty crappy in this respect, except that the PS3's dual shock will work on all old PS1/PS2 games and sony released a cheap adapter so people could catalog their memory cards for the PS1 and PS2. Now thats some good backwards compatibility (20GB and 60GB ONLY)

Some good backwards that they dropped, and i wasn't sure if they had, i never tried it, but i am shocked, the original xbox had memory cards. I think i might have seen them but that was the first major console to have built in memory on that scale.

I had to use the memory cards to take my profile to different xboxes or to a friends and to move saves around my xboxes. Same as I have to with the 360.... indispensable really.....

this made it so you could play it in the living room, then continue it elsewhere... good times

Eh my xbox just followed me around every where.

obviously I am totally adverse to moving my console around... I would rather just buy another one for wherever I am! Its easy when these are cheap though and I got my first Xbox as a xmas present ;)

I agree although or nightly ritual at the fire house was Halo or call of Duty, good times, man i miss those.

halo LAN was as it good as it gets back then... it still rocks hard today, just no where near as often

Yeah me either we have migrated to more online play

we've had some great times online but never as good as when we were all in the same apt. or house playing together. I have tried very hard to keep that a possibility with our current setup. The last big housewarming party we had like about 8 people play Halo 3 in 3 rooms and it was pretty great!

Yeah onlines not as fun as running over and face palming the guy you just stuck with a sticky grenade from across the map.

most definitely and lots of people will never experience that... I'm sure in the future the very idea of people taking their PC's and console's over to someone elses place to play will seem quite obscene. Of course everyone will have a pocket pc on them so it really won't matter...

Well true, and if i could play halo 3 on a portable i would probably never turn it off. Man i miss those days, random shots to someones junk wasn't out of the question either, granted this was a firestation.

lol - ya, way different rules! ya, I honestly don't know how Microsoft has missed out on portable Halo... It is its own killer app! They could f over Nintendo and Sony with an amazing portable and our demographic would go nuts for it...

I don't know if they would dent nintendo but they would take a chunk out of the PSP market for sure.

If they took the best of both worlds (features from both) with way better game delivery, better graphics, and a rock solid multiplayer service like on the xbox - it could be huge!

In my experience lots of people our age have a DS but rarely play it kind of like the Wii. The portable Xbox would be perfect though. Assuming M$ ever pulls the trigger...

Yeah, i guess your right, as long as they did the controls right for Halo i would be happy.

Man, I really wish the PS2 was at the $50 price point already! I want to pick up a slim and just squeeze it in somewhere just cuz!

Ya, you can get them cheap if you look around. I kinda wanted that silver one just to be different. Maybe right before they discontinue them they will release new colors!

Yeah that would make sense, although i have always been a fan of spray paint since i can do it well. My first 360 faceplate(I know another redundant for me), I spray painted a nice fire engine red, I would have done the whole console but i didn't want to void the warranty pulling it apart.

I guess since I collect these things, the rare colors just kicks it up a notch. For instance I had my white original Dreamcast forever, but I only recently got the Sports Edition Dreamcast thats all black - pretty sweet!

Quite impressive, I think that these rarer colors like the 360s would be cool just to own them all.

ya, that red RE5 one is pretty nice. I find the halo colored one repulsive though. Too bad too because I'm the perfect target for that since I bought 2 Halo original xboxes.... Oh well....

Yeah i want the RE5 one, but i didn't mind the green of the halo one, if i could find both cheap i would be happy. But ultimately on that front i am probably just going to customize the 360 i have when i get a new one.

I thought it was an ugly green and the crappy metal highlights on there looked poor as well. A really bad contrast... Maybe if you just cover the vent holes you can customize it pretty well... some paint would do it well...

Well my plan is to do a complete case mod and make it look like a fire truck, ultimately i want the leds for the front to be rerouted to the top and turned into a siren looking thing.

that will be pretty sweet! need pics!

Yeah if i still had my barn60 i would have done it, i don't think the leds on the front are nothing more then just led's maybe with a ciruit board. I would have to take a look again, since i already craked that ones case. But in theory all i would need is the lightbar, don't know why i said siren, and i can get that with any walmart toy. I had already started on the faceplate, which i would have to do again since it was smashed by a printer. Maybe i can do a mock up this week.

Thats the one i let my ex borrow, i could probably get it back easly enough but i just dont want to, and i thought it was a god name as well, since thats where it spent most of its time.

No, hell no, she was about to get married to some guy in new york. But i was forced to talk to her continually since i was nice and let her keep using my satellite, and cell phone( I know I know) but no we are ok friends, my family hates her.

I haven't looked at the dimensions, but I am wondering if you stacked the PS3 Slim on top of the PS2 Slim, will they take up less room than the original PS3?
0 like dislike
deinfinityx

You know you might be onto something, although you might have to stack the PS3 onto the Ps2 since the 3 has the rounded top.

coologuy1957

the ps3 slim would eclipse the ps2 slim and crush it on a grand scale.... you may be right though, the ps2 slim would seem to replace the volume removed on the ps3 fat pretty nicely.. maybe if you melt them and put them together in a mold you would get a ps3.5 or something....

I know space on a TV stand is usually at a premium, at least for me since I have a lot of components connected to my TV. I'm sure there will be people that will stack them if they want to keep playing PS2 games.

You couldn't put the ps3 on top of the ps2 slim because it has a flip up top to load games. You couldn't really put the ps2 slim on the ps3 either because its rounded and the ps2 would fall off or vibrate in a way which could negatively affect the laser/disc mechanism...

You could stand them side by side though... but the ps2 would have to be on the right to accommodate that flip top again... and they both need stands...

Ah yeah that makes sense, i think a PS3 on top of a fat PS2 would be interesting, it would be like its crushing it.
