Leaf+ HD antenna with TiVo Premiere XL
Doing some research it seems that the Leaf+ is the best option out there, and the TiVo Premiere XL will work with anything. The HD antenna is pretty cheap and seems that I can mount it inside, even on the back of my tv, without it looking gaudy or weird.
I understand I would lose a lot of channels and that's not something I have fully prepared myself or my wife for, but with Netflix and Bittorrent I'm sure we'll figure things out. I would obviously also consider Hulu+, PlayOn, Amazon instant video and maybe buy the next gen Apple TV since it will have 1080p capabilities.
TiVo seems to be the only option for DVR though I would have to buy the box and the monthly service, it would still be far cheaper than my current package. Paying $500 for the lifetime package is a lot of money, but I see how it would make sense. I would essentially be paying for a year of my Direct TV all up front, ($800 for TiVo, $75 for Leaf+) and then never paying for anything. Actually my DirectTV costs more like $1100/year, but I would still pay for the NFL package that I could access on my PS3.
Anyone else thinking what I am thinking?
PS Anyone know for sure if DirecTV is going to offer the NFL package on PS3 again next year? Maybe on Vita too? It is a deal breaker if I can't watch my out of market games on my PS3...
I came here to see about the whole HD antenna option and I noticed you wanted to try it out with the XL. I was looking at the 3 models and it seems the only the base model can handle the antenna capabilities which to me is weird.
If you're already setup with the antenna, please let me know how it's going.
