Matte Finish

What do you guys think of it? I think its a better look, and would match my TV's finish.

Actually i kind of like the glossy finish myself but i will have to see one in person before my mind is set.

i prefer the glossy finish too, like a small console-shaped concept car.

matte is okay - will look like the old ps2's

glossy - looks badass like a sweet apple product (and like an apple product, it will still cost more lol)

Not that i care about apple products but you are right

I prefer matte, since I tend to have dust accumulation problems.

Ya, I have to dust and blow out my ps3 all the time - no kidding

True, maybe this wouldn't be so bad.

I think its a good look, just like the 360 Elite was.

Maybe, I think the most important thing here for Sony, is that people will be talking about their product again.

Maybe now the 360 Elite will go glossy! lol

I still prefer the glossy finish. Looks more elegant to me and perfectly matches my TV.

Yeah, I think that's where it will make a difference- what finish your set has.

In the picture that's posted above it doesn't look all that bad, but the up close shots make it look cheap. It reminds me of the finish the PS2 had.

Yeah the ps2 does look cheap next to everything else i own.

Looks cheap and nasty to me, which I guess is the point as Sony want to reduce production costs. The difference between my launch PS3 (4 USB ports, PS2 back compat, memory card reader, and shiny finish) to this new one is pretty shocking. It's gone from a premium bit of tech porn to a cheap toy.

Ya, but at a toy price at least.... before it was an awesome glossy look at a used car price! lol

I like the new look a lot. The image that shows how tall each one is blew me away. Are those press shots?

Its half as tall - big deal! Its almost the same in every other dimension... The PS3 Fat and the PS3 Short! LOL

looks like its textured as opposed to matte. I think my original PS3 60GB is a slick looking machine. Especially vertical.

Love the matte finish. Have always prefered matte to glossy.

The PS3 Fat looks like a sexy blu-ray playing killer whale! The PS3 Short looks like a PS2 Slim ate too much and loosened its belt...

The original PS3 was a badass looking machine, the PS3 Slim almost looks like a Fisher Price toy. I think Sony took the cost cutting a little too far.

thank you - I want to give Kaz Hirai's mercedes a matte finish and see how he likes it...

A matte finish with a chrome stripe.

lol and cut back costs by getting rid of half the tires like they did usb ports - 2 should be adequate :)

Or just cut it in half, and make a motorcycle car hybrid thingy.

In the end its so cheap it doesn't matter. And its different.

Both are killer selling points...

That they are I am actually shocked that Microsoft didn't reveal a price drop, maybe they have something else planned.

Could be since they are still the cheapest.

honestly, 360 and wii shouldn't worry till they drop in the monthly sales chart. they get a pass for september, but the rest they could still win no prob....

deinfinityx

That is very true, Wii could care less and i think they will never drop the price, 360 still has at least an 8 million sales number on the ps3 so it has a while to go before it catches up.

VGChartz shows the Wii at 52 million, 360 at 31 million, and PS3 at 23 million... Unless Sony has a monster xmas, M$ can breathe easy, nevermind Nintendo....

Yeah thats just insane, the 360 is almost selling twice as fast as the PS3. And the DS sales are freaking insane, almost 500,00 worldwide in/by august that is just insane.

I think you can easily account for the 8 million sales difference with the fact the 360 had a year long head start - don't forget that... even with that, the PS3 is bigger everywhere outside of America... not fanboyism - just fact.

I love Sony and Microsoft and told you I was all Playstation until the Xbox original was out for a few years. I love them all...

I would have to agree, they are pretty much head and head, except in japan sony and nintendo rule their and will always rule there.

forever and always... I'm actually surprised the 360 ever won any monthly sales... a huge coup for M$...

The only hypocrisy is that the Japanese complained the original Xbox was too big, meanwhile the PS3 is bigger in almost every dimension and and weighs more too! I guess Sony didn't care about that...

Apparently they didn't either but i think it was more the rpg factor me and my buddy have discussed this in depth. The original Xbox had very little to no RPGs which was big on the ps2 and in japan, which is why it never saturated. After the 360 they have come ou twith a few original ip that made them want to play them.

The lack of RPG's was huge, but I mostly heard size complaints because their space is precious. The original Xbox controller couldn't be used by the Japanese also because it was much too big. They redesigned it to the smaller form factor we are used to now because of Japan.

Its not really that much smaller but i can see that point, although i think the RPG was the bigger one since if you really wanted it you could make it fit.

from wiki: The standard Xbox controller (also known as the "Duke" controller) was originally the Xbox controller for all territories except Japan. The Duke controller has been criticized for being bulky compared to other video game controllers (it was awarded "Blunder of the Year" by Game Informer in 2001[11] and a Guinness World Record for the biggest controller in Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008, as well as being ranked the second worst video game controller ever by IGN editor Craig Harris.[12]). The Controller S, a smaller, lighter Xbox controller, was originally the standard Xbox controller only in Japan (codenamed "Akebono"),[13] designed for users with smaller hands.

So I guess they never had the bigger controller and no rpg's either. Not enough cared about the Tecmo games (DoA, Ninja Gaiden) either and now Ninja Gaiden is on PS3...

The wiki article on Final Fantasy XIII said it will be exclusive to the PS3 in Japan as well which is a huge coup... Japanese people with 360's will probably trade them for PS3s just for that...

I knew the xbox controller was massive but i never noticed it, and i would imagine when FF XIII launches everyone in japan will trade it in or maybe buy a ps3 since i would imagine they already have both since ps3 is still the second biggest over there
