No Bluetooth 4.0 in S3

Overall, I'm a fan of the S3. I've had mine for about 6 months now. It has its pros and cons, but one thing has really pissed me off. No bluetooth 4.0 (low energy, aka "BLE"). The chipset can do it, sure. In fact, I've heard it has the same Broadcom chipset as the iPhone 4S. The problem is, the software isn't there. It won't even discover Bluetooth 4 devices.

Samsung is aware of the problem and has described it as a "bug", despite the fact that it was obviously a complete oversight. The S3 marketing and packaging material claims with no disclaimers that the phone supports Bluetooth 4. Many developers have confirmed that there is no bug - there is no driver or API for the latest version of the protocol on the phone, even in the more recent Jelly Bean update.

I found out about it when I supported Variable Technologies' NODE device on Kickstarter, received my Bluetooth 4.0 BLE model, and couldn't use it.

Samsung knows about it. All I know to do now is complain in forums and to media outlets in the hope that Samsung will put a higher priority on the "bug fix".

It's almost too easy to jump on Samsung. With the GS3 there's NFC, but no bluetooth 4.0. The Note II came out just as the Note was (absurdly) getting popular.

What kinda dumbass company really thinks making a 5.5 inch 'phablet' is sustainable? They even released a Galaxy camera and a separate iPod Touch wannabe device as well. So dumb, sooo dumb!

I've never been able to get the NFC working either. Not with other S3s, and not with Galaxy Nexus phones either.
