Non UK pricing

It seems a bit off of google to claim the nexus one is available for UK customers when in fact the phone is shipped from the US, The charge is in US Dollars and the end price is a total guess because of the import duty and VAT.

Does anyone know what the final cost to UK customers would be? i think it would be over £400, but that is just a guess, and that is my point.

$529 + $20 = £342

Let's turn that to a nice round number for conversion costs and such: £350. Over £400 is just insane!

Are you missing my point, the google price does not include uk vat or import duty. You pay google the $529 then you will get stung for the rest when it arives in the uk.

I agree I have been hit by tax duty and vat charges in the past and the benefit of buying overseas doesn't really work out (as an individual). I am waiting for expansys to release some sort of price here in the UK before I even think about this phone.

Right now SuperTrader (www.superetrader.co.uk/google-nexus-one-sim-free-u...) has this phone up for pre-order for £600 which is ridiculously high and I believe play.com at one point had their price set at £500 before changing it.

Some have also shown up on eBay with users selling them for around £600.

The cheapest I have seen this phone is at Gadgetee.com (www.gadgetee.com/google-nexus-one-%28google-phone%...) £450

Has anyone in the UK actually bought the phone from google and had it delivered yet?

Would be interesting to see how many have taken the hit and how much the final cost was?

Come on Google a real UK launch please.

I can't afford to run the risk of a massive import charge on top of the phone. The bit that really annoys me is that £20+ the courier companies charge for presentation.

I bought it as soon as the google.com/phone page is live (around 5pm GMT) and received it on 7th Jan. Google charge me for $578.64 which is around £356.

I don't have to pay import duty (mobile phones are exempt from import duty same as laptops) but I have to pay VAT which is about £63 (@17.5%). DHL has not yet billed me for this so this is just my estimate. I will update the info when I got my VAT bill.

So my original estimate of £400 probably wasn't that far away. Well personally I would love one but I think it's just a bit to expensive.

I'm going to see what apple announce at the end of the month and then think again.

What does everyone else think?

That is good news keep us updated on the VAT charges. If the phone is duty free then I may well order this phone directly from google as the cheapest I've seen this phone (like I mentioned earlier) is around £450. My only concern now is the 3G issues which has been widely talked about on the Nexus One I wonder what google is going to do about that.

If the phone does indeed come at around £400 then it is a good deal in my opinion considering the Droid sells for about the same price and iPhone is considerably more and so is the pre.

Now its time to find a buyer for my HTC Hero so I can get my Nexus :)

I have no 3g issues, I am on Vodafone UK. Me and two of my mates bought together, and none of us have any problems at all. I am on Vodafone, my mates are on O2 and Three.

P.S. I haven't got my VAT bill yet, will update as soon as I get it.

Ok, I just received the VAT invoice from DHL.. It comes to £61.40. I bought the uk ac charger too, so if you don't order uk ac charger, it will be around £59. So, the totoal cost of the phone is around £420, including everything and I am pleased with it. Now, my wife wants one instead of 3gs as her contract coming to end in Feb.

Thanks for the info. Still seems reasonable to me. I just wish google would just offer us brits a version that doesn't require these ridiculous import charges.
