Not getting the point...

I don't quite see the point of this move by Nintendo. Maybe its just because I'm not as big on handheld gaming as I used to be, but the only good I can see coming of this is a drop in the price of the DS Lite. If this pushes Lites down to $149.99 or lower, I'll buy one. As for the DSi/DSi LL, I can't see myself getting one anytime soon. DSi Ware isn't enough of a reason to get one of these over the Lite.

I'm sure they're focusing on expanding the market to the obaasans & ojiisans (older generation) in Japan (as every other Japanese seems to already have some DS model). That probably explains it being released only in Japan and Europe for now ("older" countries).

Well considering it has already been announced for Europe, I highly doubt it will stay exclusive to any region

I just like the screen size. But the device itself might become too big. And these colors, seriously.

Wait and see as they say

the point is to milk this DS brand to death...... its already the second best selling handheld ever..... (according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_co...) and so close behind it that as long as they keep releasing new versions with slight upgrades and new colors they will be number one in no time... Remember, the DS products have outsold all three home consoles out right now (which total approximately 110 million vs. 113 million for the DS), annihilated the PSP, and are creeping up on the 138 million peak of the Playstation 2.... Also, these revision sell very well in Japan where people want to get the newest version and differentiate from the pack.... I'm still very happy with my DS Lite, although I like that they finally increased the screen size....

Right, Nintendo is continuing the tradition of refreshing their DS models every year in the same way they did it with the GameBoy. Remember the GameBoy Micro?

exactly! the DS is just taking it to new levels...

Gameboy > Gameboy Pocket > Gameboy Color

Gameboy Advance > Gameboy Advance SP > Gameboy Micro

DS (Fat) > DS Lite > DSi > DSi XL

and all of them made super fantastic ultra cash!!

On the best selling portable console list gameboy, DS, and Gameboy Advance are number 1, 2, 3 respectively...

At least the amazing PSP is number 4!!

Ditto... Well, I hate to say it, but I'm probably in for one. My old, red, Mario Kart DS (Fat) is thinking that this is as good as it's going to get. Plus, my giant hands would fit it better than the DS lite or DSi.

Well, there is that rumored tegra-based Nintendo handheld... Hmmmmm... Perhaps I should wait a bit and see how this all plays out.

ya, they will definitely release like 2 more DS upgrades before that DS 2 or whatever it is... they might have a cd or 32 X attachment with Tegra processors to go into the next gen!! LOL

Actually, its rumored that the tegra DS (DS2 perhaps?) will be announced in late 2010, so i doubt there will be any more iterations of the DS/DSi before it comes out.

Did you expect their to be a DS with larger screens out now? ......... ......

besides, there is no reason they can't release more versions of the DS even while the successor is out......

Wow, what are they smoking at Nintendo HQ? Shit like this is just pointless- why would you make a handheld BIGGER? I mean this will just make their games even more pixaleted as they will likely keep the old DS res. Man...Nintendo has so much money, it would be nice to see them make something new.

To be fair, the Gameboy Micro at least gave us the best LCD screen at that time and the most portable handheld ever...

And the PSPgo is the first console with pure digital distribution which is nothing to sneeze at....

I own neither of them, but as a collector I will own them all eventually anyway.....

About the PSPGo: What's the benefit of pure digital distribution when previous generations have access to the store but are $50 cheaper?

But I do agree with you about the GBA Micro. It remains the only handheld I can fit into my pockets, and its screen is bright and clear. It's a shame I can't play my original GameBoy/GameBoy Color games on it.

the benefit of pure digital distribution is exactly that - no wasted space for a disc drive, no hard games to carry around, smaller load times, yada yada... apparently people wanted these things, but I still love my PSP-2000 and want a real PSP successor.....

(sony is retarded about the games costing the same as the physical ones though.... a lot of companies have made this mistake and have sold very few digital versions because of it.......)

I don't get the negative backlash on this... I mean the DSi was a complete waist of time/money (and I refuse to get one) but this? This is great... a much larger screen and bigger battery! Finally... the one complaint (screen size)I had about the current DS is solved!!! (bigger battery is always a welcome change)

Couldn't care less about the cameras, and there better be a hack to take off the new region settings (introduced in the DSi) but overall the larger screen size is exactly what I've been waiting for... until the DS2 comes out that is. :-)

bigger screens is always nice! I totally agree with that! same with bigger battery!

that being said, the DS2 is probably coming sooner than you think... with all of the Wii 2/HD talk, I am betting they release HD Wii and DS console updates at the same time in the coming year....

I have one and I love it, but to be fair I think that this version is to heavy to be comfortable for long gaming sessions.

The bigger battery is required in order to juice the bigger screens, that are really nice, but the image is pixelated enough to be noticiable and that tkes you out from the game more often that desired.
