I do like the thought of complete backwards and better resolution add tegra to that an i will buy one day one depending on the price of course. But i think if they limit it to just being a tegra upgrade i would have a hard time justifying.
agreed, but if they are going to the trouble of adding tegra, they pretty much have to do some upgrades like a considerably better screen resolution, otherwise you lose most of the benefit of tegra.
I think that really screen resolution plus the addition of the tegra would be enough of an upgrade for me. Did you have anything specific in mind?
I was thinking and since its nintendo something along the line of motion controls at least an accelerometer or maybe facial tracking with the camera, something completely unique. I wouldn't even mind a thumb stick.
accelerometer would be really nice now that you mention it.A thumb stick would be difficult with the clamshell design wouldn't it?
I am not sure they will put in a good enough camera for facial tracking, although I have no idea how good of a camera it needs, maybe it just needs good software which the tegra should be able to handle.
That is true but the PSP go pulled off the thumbstick with a fold out design so it shouldn't be to hard, not that any nintendo game would use it but it might help FPS. Otherwise i know a decent 3mp camera should be able to accomplish facial tracking and those come cheap now adays so i could see that, i just want to see some sort of innovation from nintendo, they always seem to accomplish that.
the problem with a thumbstick is that it makes it very difficult to use the touchscreen, and I think they are pretty committed to that tech at this point. I guess you could put it in and give game designers the option, but that would just result in a lot of games that don't use one of those two features so it might seem like a bit of a waste.
As far as innovation goes, I think we can trust nintendo do something cool, but I would be surprised if they managed to accomplish something as different as the first DS or Wii. They made pretty huge changes in the way people interact with their games and consoles and that is not an easy thing to top.
So i think we will see new features and innovation, just maybe not on the scale we have seen in the past and I am ok with that.
Man, two folding OLED screens, an amped up Tegra, Wireless N, and enhanced media playback on a Nintendo handheld??? sign me up!!!
That would be sick. And i think the enhanced media playback is coming for sure. The dual OLED screens i doubt just because of cost, plus, they will probably stick with capacitive touch screen on the bottom so they can use the more accurate stylus input, for some games that is a must, the finger just does not cut it.
And if you have a capacitive touch screen, it cuts down on the brightness, so an OLED screen on the bottom might not be worth it, but on the top? I could see it happening.
As for wireless N, one can only hope, but it seems to me that portables take quite a while to catch up to the newest standard, and supposedly this will launch late 2010, so maybe they will get it in the second iteration?
I know they have pics and music on the DSi, but it is still limited... I wish Nintendo would embrace media and get their products up to PSP levels (or the do it all ways of a Creative model). Man, both the next home and portable nintendo consoles have a huge potential for awesomeness!!
I would buy this if it came out, and i would be happy that nintendo has given a thought to the hardcore gamers that kept them going for so long!!!
I have been really disappointed with the past few offerings from nintendo, although the dsi was a step in the right direction it wasn't a big enough step!!
i had just gotten the k800i when the ds came out and was disappointed to find it had the same graphics capabilities as the ds!!! And my phone did more and was smaller!!
