Photo quality through integrated camera cover glass?
Although the iPhone 4 was the first mainstream smartphone to have a full glass back, the Nexus 4 seems to be the first phone to have the entire back cover also act as the camera cover glass. Theoretically, Gorilla Glass 2 would be good for the durability of the camera area but is Gorilla Glass 2 glass of the same optical grade as other cover glass used on smartphone cameras? Although the "cover glass" is not the same as the "lens", I have seen cheap iPhone backplates degrade camera quality.
I ask because the iPhone 4, 4S, and even 5 use separate pieces of glass to cover the camera even though there is glass all around that area (Apple even made a big point of using sapphire which is apparently clearer and more durable. Since Apple is known for design simplicity, it would seem that they'd reduce design elements as much as possible.
