when did they say they won't convert UMD's? I have been waiting for them to make an announcement forever and would like an update as well...
I don't own any previous PSP but I think it was another bad move by Sony to not have any sort of conversions for previous owners. I still want a PSP Go however, but at $249, it is undoubtedly a rip-off! Come on, Sony, at least $199.
whoever came up with the $249 price point is an idiot... the same kind of idiot who came up with $599 for the PS3... I mean they have it priced $50 less than a PS3 at this point!! and $50 more than a Wii or a 360!!
Yeah that was not a smart move on their part, maybe they were trying to price it to compete with the itouch since that is the only thing in that range that is portable. I mean they are marketing simple apps for it like the itouch so maybe they just want to compete with that and not other handhelds.
Ok, so they drop it to $179 and compete with DSi all while blowing the iTouch out of the water. I can see using the Go as an all media player with way better gaming controls. It would aptly fill both needs. I guess we'll see how many go on launch day. Hopefully very few and we can force a price cut by Christmas.
That would be nice and maybe i would buy one, instead of a 3000, I think the market for simple cheap game apps is growing but i personally think its a bad market, great for the companies pumping out the games but for average gamers you are paying for a cheap game that you may play once, beat and then never play again.
Yep. And how many dollars have I spent on those exact apps on the iPhone? Probably enough to offset a good portion of a Go unfortunately.
Thank fully i have spent all my money on DS games instead of the games on my Android, i have bought 2 so far and honestly they keep me entertained more then any payed app would. Golf Solitare FTW, but yeah if i sold my entire game collection i own right now i could probably buy every console or a ton of digital games.
I just got a DSi as an early birthday gift and haven't put it down for 3 days. Mario vs. Donkey Kong Minis March Again is so addictive. Between that and Scribblenauts I'm happy so far. My birthday is friday the 2nd and thanks to the DSi my mind is off of the Go for the moment.
my DS experience has been very similar to my wii experience.. theres some games I love, but I never play it as much as I did when I first got it.... theres still wii games I play regularly but I can't think of a DS game thats the same.... I have played New Super Mario Bros. the most, then Brain Age, then, most recently, GTA: Chinatown Wars... I love that game but I pretty much just kill people a lot.. I find the drug trade pretty uninteresting....
I actually loved the drug trade aspect, reminds me of Dope Wars which is still one of my favorite games ever.
Not to be the forum police, I love my DSi too, but lets stay on topic. I know, I started it... :)
these topics branch off all the time... its no biggie... I just haven't advanced in that game at all because of the drug trade... I guess I haven't done enough to have enough money to actually by up a supply and make any big trades... as such, I haven't seen the story advance much at all....
So we don't buy until there's a price drop. You're gonna pay a premium for portability so I think $179 is fair. Drop the 3000 to $129 and offer the digital conversion for 99 cents a game and I'm cool with it. Agree? Disagree? By the way, the form factor is super nice IMO. I held one today. Don't tell anyone...
I still haven't held one yet.... I guess 99 cents would be reasonable though I already swore I wouldn't pay a cent over what I already paid... I don't know what price is reasonable anymore, but I know the cost of the internal components should have come down substantially by now... I wish they would price it more aggressively against the DSi already....
I think I would do anything under $5 for a conversion of UMD collection to digital. I say $5, because that is my iPhone limit.
Sony has ALWAYS had a premium on their products, similar to the Apple Tax. And for the most part, Sony's products were deserving on the "tax" because they were/are better than their counterparts in quality/innovation. They are not going to change. They have a 6-12 month post launch schedule of price reduction and will stick to it. Right or wrong.
true. like it or not, sony has always been at the forefront of new tech and sometimes I forget how much stuff I have had from them....
sony walkman (cassette)
sony walkman (CD)
minidisc portable player
in-dash cd player
portable TV (black & white boombox style)
portable TV (color & tiny form factor)
locationfree TV (LF-PK1)
I love them way more than Apple.. All I have from Apple is iPods, though I do love those too!!
Looking back at your list brings back some serious memories...and a lot of failed proprietary media formats.
You know how they could have eliminated all the bad attitude for the PSP and PSPGo...from the get go on the PSP-1001, gone without the UMD and sold their games on Memory Stick Pro Duo's.
They are still a proprietary format for Sony (profit), they would have more smoothly helped usher in the digital age, and would have taken less shelf space at retail. You could carry 5-10 MS Duos in your pocket and not even know they were there.
ya, we've been saying that for a while... they could sell the games like that now and stop selling UMDs completely. I thought the UMDs were cool, but I didn't realize the toll they took on battery life... and speaking of failed formats, I left off Betamax tapes which I never owned but am looking to collect because I like stuff like that (laserdiscs, UMDs, minidiscs, etc)
