i'm too scared to roll w/o a screen protector! i always use the anti-glare ones
That's exactly where I stand but I wanted to see if I could do without it. I'll probably chicken out and buy 1 tomorrow.
It's fine without it, but I actually love the texture of the anti-glare screen protectors and think they do a fine job. It the last ~2.5 years of iPhone use, I've only ever scratched the screen once: iPhone was in my pack while hiking, and slipped out of a protective case, scraping against my keys. There was a rather large and annoying scratch right in the middle.
Fortunately, the 3GS came out a few weeks later.
Yeah I've used the anti glare films too but after a couple of months I miss the glossy look so I switch back to the crystal films. This is the first time I'm not using any film on it though but after all these comments I'm sure my phone will be ok.
I believe the screen on the iphone 3GS is a glass screen and very scratch resistant. I've had my phone for three months and have never had any protectors on it (can't stand the stupid air bubbles) and don't have a scratch on it at all, and I use and abuse my phone, (throwing it in the car to hook up to radio, dropping it etc..)
Wow that's the kind of assurance I wanted to hear. I can't standing having a scratch on the screen but I have heard that the iPhone's screen is really scratch resistance. I've just been too chicken to test it.
I can second this. I used my ipod touch 1st gen for 2 years without a screen protector and now my 3GS since June without anything. Both are in my pocket/on my desk/in my car with pretty much all day use and not a scratch on either.
i have had every iphone so far and i have not been able to scratch it. My 3 iphones have not scratched without a screen protector and i have used them a lot. so the screen protector is really useless and youre wasting your money. go check out videos on youtube with a guy scratching the screen with a key and nothing happens. anyways that is my opinion
I kept a screen protector on my 3G because I *cannot* tolerate scratches on the screen. However, I've been rolling without a protector on my 3GS for the last 4.4 months and it's just fine. I've just been careful about not putting things like keys, change, and other hard or scratchy objects in the same pocket.
If you do still want a screen protector, I highly recommend Power Support's Crystal Film. It's non-adhesive, you can barely tell it's there, and it comes in a pack of two for when you want to replace it.
I have had all 3 versions of the iPhone. I do keep it in a slip case usually, but never had a scratch. Unless you throw it in with keys regularly or something , the glass screen has proven to be very durable.
I have to agree with those talking about the iPhone's screen being pretty resistant against scratches. The screen is glass so unless you put it in the same pocket as your keys you should be fine. It's the back that is really prone to scratching. I've used the Invisible Shield on the back of the iPhone and kept the screen naked. Invisible Shield (or Body Guardz for that matter) provide good protection while still keeping the form of the phone since it's just a clear plastic skin. I hate using cases that take away from the form of the device.
In the first couple of weeks of owning my 3GS (my first iPhone) I flip flopped from having a screen protector to not having one several times. I went through 4 Power Support anti glare protectors during that process. In the end I settled on not having a screen protector on the phone. That was at the end of July. It's now Novemeber and the screen looks as good as new.
Thank you all for your comments. I've had both the crystal and anti-glare films but I've never had the courage to leave the screen naked. After all your comments, I'm going to try it out.
I've had all three iPhones.
iPhone - Never a scratch, had no screen protector ever
iPhone 3G - Got a scratch when I was hiking in Arizona. I'm not sure how it happened, but we were all over the place in the mountains. It was hairline, hardly saw it.
iPhone 3GS - One thinner-than-hairline scratch from something. I don't know what. It's very recent. Can't see it unless I'm looking.
That being said. I went to go pick up a sweet, ultra cheap battery pack from monoprice, and decided to pick up a $1 screen protector. Can't go wrong with that. If you're at all curious. Give monoprice a looksee, I mean, $1-$3 is absolutely nothing.
I suggest a two pocket system. iPhone in one pocket and everything else in the other...and watch out for those rivets just above the pockets on jeans.
I definitely follow the 2 pocket system, no matter what gadget it is. To gadgets, keys are the devil!
I have the original iPhone. I'm very particular about scratches on the screen. Had a screen protector for every phone I had before that.
Around the time I bought the iPhone, I saw PC World's iPhone stress test video online, and decided to go without a screen protector. 2 years on, and not a single scratch on the screen, simply amazing.
That is amazing! Well for now I'm going to keep the iPhone without a screen protector but I like to switch things up so I'm sure after some time I'll get the anti-glare film. Thanks
I do not have a screen protector. Also on the 3gs you likely do not want one. The phone cleans very quickly and is resistant to oil. WIth a screen protector you would lose the oil resistance.
Oddly this little feature is a lot better than I thought that it would be.
I have all three phones and I am not an outlandishly careful user. I never had a problem with scratches.
It doesn't matter either way. The iphone screen is really durable so you don't have to worry about owning a screen protector! I prefer to use my 3gs naked because accessories usually just uglify them anyways lol
I left the phone naked for 2 weeks but finally gave in and bought the anti-glare film. It's nice, gives it another feeling.
Had my 3GS for a good 5 months now and I haven't been exactly "delicate" with it. No screen protector, yet still not a single scratch on the screen.
I refused to get a screen protector and ended up getting a small scratch on the screen. Now it's too late.
I have not bothered with a screen protector, I can never get them to sit on the phone just right so I gave up!
i'm probably going to get the zagg full body invisible shield.
I keep my 3GS in an Incipio Feather case. It's really thin (less than 1mm) and comes in white and black to maintain that naked look. It comes with two screen protectors too. Pretty much a no brainer as far as I am concerned.
I've always used a screen protector on all my phones. I've found the bestskinsever to have the best screen protectors I've ever had the pleasure of using. A bonus is you can return the old beat/scratched up protector and they'll send you a new one free. Really good product and really quick to handle all inquiries.
This has been really helpful. I think I'm going without a screen protector. I just assumed you had to have one. Nice to hear you don't. Assuming the iPod Touch is the same, no?
