Tegra Phones

Anyone know what carriers we can expect Tegra chips to start showing up on early in 2010? I'm on Verizon and looking to pick up the Touch Pro2 since, from what I hear, the Tegra chip won't be making its debut on my carrier any time soon. Just want to get you all's opinions.

I haven't heard of any confirmed phones using Tegra yet. There seems to be a good chance HTC will have something out by the end of the year though but with no idea which phones could be using it it's difficult to predict which carriers will have what at the moment. From what i hear though it looks like if HTC do come out with one by 2010 then it'll be a media focused phone and not anything like the TP2.

Mobile graphics are starting to get really powerful. Imagine the capabilities of our devices a few more years down the road.

I expect that in 5 years many people wont have a separate hand-held for gaming and everything will be done on phones. not sure what Sony, MS and Nintendo will do though. seems unlikely that they'd have much long term success bringing out PSP, DS or xbox phones unless they team up with a big player like HTC and use a mainstream OS as the foundation.

I don't know about that. Although they have the potential nothing will knock Nintendo out of the handheld market. They sell 100+ million handhelds with each generation. I think if Nintendo makes a phone out of the DS they will own the market hands down. And sorry to go off topic about Tegra.

As is, Tegra is just as capable as a PSP or a DS in terms of graphical processor power. And currently Tegra is matted to a 600MHz chip....so can you imagine how good Tegra would be if was matted to a 1GHz + chip on a phone?

But on another not I really don't think handheld gaming systems will obsolete in the near future. MOst people aren't willing to drop $30-$40 for a game on a phone, but will handily do that for a DS or PSP game, so we probably have a while to go.

I wonder if Nintendo have the knowledge to enter the phone market? It would certainly be interesting to see.

I would agree although it would not be hard to through in the standard phone hardware in the ds since the dsi is smaller. I don't think they ever will and if i remember corectly they even said they had no desire to compete with the Iphone in gaming because the Iphone wasn't any were near the league that the DS is and i agree. I know i would by a nintendo phone if it could play all my DS games, have a decent hardrive good processor and ran Android.

I suppose Nintendo do well enough without having to enter the mobile phone market, just look @ the Wii/DSi.

There are a few Tegra phones lined up from Samsung and Motorola (why, oh, why would you want a Motorola? - though if it ran Android I MIGHT forgive it as I hate Motorola's GUI).

If you Google Tegra then select news from the top of the page it will fill you in.

You didn't get the news? Motorola from here on out will be developing exclusively Android powered smartphones. That said, their upcoming Shules/Sholes sounds VERY interesting if it ran Tegra or Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipset. Motorola might just make a comeback if they make a good Tegra powered Android phone.

I didn't know that they had announced that tho! I have mentioned in other posts that android will penetrate not just the smartphone but the featurephone market too.

Have you seen the pic of the Motorola Morrison? (www.engadget.com/2009/07/21/motorola-morrison-gets...) it looks cheap and tacky to me - their razor was renowned for breaking easily. In England there is a cheap supermarket called Morrisons, says it relly doesn't it.
And the Shules/Sholes (www.slashgear.com/motorola-shules-aka-sholes-veriz...) looks even worse (it is a render though).

They are still prototypes and the chassis' might be subject to change.

Then again each to their own opinion, and everything. If Motorola were to produce a nice looking (QWERTY) phone with snapdragon/tegra I might be persuaded.
