Valve Software facilitating ID Theft

Recently $800 worth of software was purchased from Valve Software using my wife's stolen credit card information. Besides Valve not properly authenticating the person trying to use the card, they then got upset that their integrity was being questioned and basically said that they didn't care.

The thing with online shopping is a lot of merchants only take the numbers on the front, the expiry and the cvv (3 digit) number on the back. I don't necessarily think its a problem that just would pertain to steam.

That being said, most credit card companies don't have the cardholder liable for fraudulent charges, so I can't imagine you have lost any money out of pocket

This is correct, you wouldn't be liable for anything past $50, if anything at all.
