Who else has theirs?

I got a call from my neighborhood GameStop at 10:50 this morning (EDT) saying that my Slim was in and ready for pickup. by 11:40, it was in my hands... I havent hooked it up yet, but will the second I get home...lol... who else has theirs already? GameStop's all over are already selling them as well as reports that Best Buys have them too... I'm a little nervous, as I've never been an "Early Adoptor" when it comes to consoles, and even thou this isnt a brand new platform, it is a new interation. I'm still hanging onto my current series 80GB, but I may sell that soon...

Side question, is it possible to x-fer all the data from one PS3 to another? I'm mostly interested in Save Games, as I dont have anything else that isnt irreplaceable (ie DRM'd DLC)

Game Library: Trivial Persuit, MGS4, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, HAWX, Oblivion... some other games that I havent played in forever...lol

You should be able to transfer your saves to another console via usb except for the ones that have this option disabled (don't know which have but know it exists). All DLC and games just need to be redownloaded I believe because Sony has a very generous policy on this...

Posts some pics and talk about your experiences when you get it going! I want to know every juicy detail!

I noticed the laxness when it came to PS1 games and xfer between PS3 and PSP... I have many PS1 games that are installed on both and have played a game while my GF plays the same game on the TV...lol... so far i've heard that Rock Band had this limitation, but i have that on 360... When I hook up a USB drive to my PS3, it doesnt see it... if i can get it to see it, will a backup on one to a restore on the other work? Can I use a Thumb drive as a mem card so I can take my saves from one to the other, or is it an xfer after play process (Assuming that I keep both... no HDTV other than the living room...)?

thumb drives will work if they are properly formatted -

Also...I paid extra for HDMI is there really gonna be a difference between that and the standard cables that come with it?

I think Standard cables only give you upto 480i on regular TVs and 720p on HDTVs.

HDMI cables on a HDTV should give you 720p - 1080p, depends on the game and also what the TV supports.

However 1080p/1080i is only noticeable on TVs larger than say 42"

I just prefer HDMI because it all comes in one cable. most PS3 games don't even support 1080p/1080i due to lack of RAM.... i REALLY wish they upped this in the PS3 Slim..

I think standard cables can support 1080p on HD tv's mine would be set to it but my tv isn't 1080p. I do find it interesting about the 1080p/i on PS3, is it really due to a lack of RAM?

it comes with standard A/V cables I thought - not component cables which can support 720p/1080i usually. Non-component RCA cables support 480i (the red-white-yellow cables, S-video also)

HDMI will do 720p/1080i/1080p and have a much clearer/crisper picture overall. The PS3 can handle 1080p no problem and most PS3 and Xbox 360 games are 720p on the disc anyway - they are upscaled by the hardware to 1080p. These firmware updates are shrinking the size of the PS3 OS so that a greater amount of RAM is developer accessible anyway. Wipeout HD is full 1080p and it will melt your eyes!

(the HDMI cable will also carry your sound so you don't need additional cables)

Ok that was what i thought, but i wouldn't think it would come with just standard non component cables.

component cables can do 1080p but some TV's don't accept it over an analog cable - depends on the TV....

Ok gotcha, that makes more sense. I guess i just need to get an HDMI.

for some retarded reason ALL ps3s come with composite (red-white-yellow) cables

salesman always advise getting HDMI and I advise buying one super cheap off ebay or any internet cable site... you will save a ton...

I have found them for $5 so i don't think thats horrible.

its not horrible but it is kind of dumb how sony pushed "FULL HD" and you can't even hook it up out of the box and get HD with the included cables..

but yes you can get HDMI cables for little to nothing... just make sure they are up to the latest spec release (1.3c??)

I got mine yesterday but it's defective. Freezes randomly, the wireless wouldn't work, and some game downloads wouldn't even show up after being installed. So i tried a system update and guess what? It crashes at 36%. I have to unplug the unit to reset it and it just keeps attempting to install the system update and keeps crashing at 36%. I'm planning on exchanging it today, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had issues?

haven't seen anything on the web but we'll hear about it soon enough if this is a widespread issue...

I got mine today and a second DualShock 3. Couldn't be happier with it.
I also bought Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Rainbow Six Vegas, and Need For Speed Carbon. I'll get more eventually :P

Blu-ray works great... i read on engadg that its slower, but I didnt notice and slowdown... Link: www.engadget.com/2009/08/27/playstation-3-slim-rev...

Problem I'm having right now is that it doesnt want to keep a connection to my DS3 controllers... they drop off, I press the PS button, and the DS3 lights all blink til they time out... i have to shut down the system to get the controllers to link back up... If i connect them via USB, they work fine thou... I think mine may have a faulty BT radio... :(...

None of the new models will come with it now. That was part of what they cut to make it cheaper.

I don't think they have ever come with anything but regular composite (red-white-yellow) cables from the start. Lord knows why....

Preach it brother! Throw a picture as a background or check out some of the kick as FREE themes on the PlayStation Store too! Just a million times more customizable... connect a camera via USB for some cool slideshows or copy some videos to the hard drive for live thumbnails... a thing of beauty...

Man, take that 120GB drive out, drop in a 500GB drive and put some serious content on there! Some HD rips to start... watching High Fidelity stored on my PS3's hard drive right now.... ;)

I just got mine last Friday! Bought it at a GameStop in Jacksonville, FL. I got the tip off from gizmodo when they said that other people saw PS3 Slims popping up around FL. I guess the people who already go their PS3 Slims, including me, are the lucky ones.
