Will the zune ever retail outside the USA

Seems like if they wanted to hurt ipod sales they should really start selling their product in more then one country. Increase exposure means increase in sales, "simples"

I hope so. The HD looks like a pretty slick product. I'm beginning to get bored of shiny white iPods

You can still buy shiny white iPods?! :)

that has been one of the factors why zune didn't kick off initially.
Apple has gone out of US and sells its IPODs in many countries.
If MS needs to see Zune going anywhere they need to retail it outside USA too

According to the Microsoft rep that comes into my work, they plan to bring the zune out in other countries, but not until they are able to bring the zune marktet place there. He tells me that most of the zune is highly dependent on the market place, and without that, they are not interested in having it other countries. Or so they say.

I'm guessing the reason they can't bring the marketplace to other countries is the licensing issues?

I live in Canada and I traveled to the US to buy a Zune80. But then, Microsoft released the Zune in Canada a few months later.

I don't know if the marketplace is still unavailable in Canada. Right when I bought the Zune, I was able to find a workaround to make my account seem like it was American. Right now I have access to everything, but since I don't have an American credit card, I can only download the podcasts. I found a workaround to purchase songs and videos, but I haven't tried it yet.

I haven't changed the settings on my computer back to Canada, so I don't know if the marketplace is still unavailable. But, Im pretty sure the all or most of the marketplace is still unavailable in Canada.

You can only access it (last I checked) but you can't buy from it, unless you have a US credit card account. I bought my Zune 8 from an ebay seller in Toronto for $139.99 about 6 months before it launched in Canada.

To me this is just another example of how Microsoft isn't really that hungry to make the portable media player market a big target for them. I think they've resigned themselves to a much longer strategy, and in this space, my guess is you just cannot pop the Zune on the back burner while you concentrate on other things.

I'd like to see the Zune in the UK providing as it came with the same subscription service, I think that could sway a few.

sorry to clarify, I asked if the Zune HD was coming to canada, and he told me that they would not be coming until the marketplace is fully in canada. Can't say I have looked to see if there is a small marketplace, or even one at all in canada, but it seems like a logical reason. They need some type of backend to support the product like ipod/iphone and itunes.

Zune HD + UK = Buy

Being a Zune 80 owner for nearly two years, and still not official Zune release in the UK or anywhere other than US / Canada, I hope the Zune HD will mark the international release of the Zune. A worldwide or stepped release similar to how Xbox 360 was released will be fine!

I was pretty psyched about the Ziune. Even the brown one which a lot of people ripped the piss out of. I bought a Nano as a cheap stand over as my iPod had broken and I wanted to get a Zune.
I don't think I can be the only person who gave up and bought something else. I still like the look of the HD but I've got an iPhone 3G so there's really no need for me to get the Zune. Shame.

Anybody knows why Zune hasn't been released worldwide? Please MS, make the HD available everywhere. I want it!

Hey guys - the good news is you don't need to wait for Microsoft. You can actually get full access to Zunepass and the Zune Marketplace by using Zune Gift cards. If you don't have a friend in the US who can buy them for you, you can buy them online and get the redemption code via email. Check out www.cardreach.com - it works no matter what country you live in!
