Symbian OS anti-virus software in the works
Anti-virus company Kaspersky has decided it's time to cash in on Symbian malware hysteria after the Cabir and CommWarrior viruses received some airplay in recent months. Infecting Nokia Series 60 smartphones, these virii haven't actually been all too visible yet, but Kaspersky's entry into the smartphone anti-virus realm indicates they, at least, expect Symbian viruses to become more of an issue over time. Their Anti-Virus for Symbian OS is currently in open beta, which allows beta testers to sign up to receive automagic anti-virus updates for their phones. The software includes a monitor that reportedly intercepts viruses as they arrive as well as a scanner that hunts for malware at the user's request. The software only supports Symbian OS versions 6.1 and 7.0, with no plans yet to add support for the latest, version 9.0. Guess that's what you'll get for being cutting edge, suckas: no anti-virus for you!

Um, as a sidenote, "Virii" isn't a word, never has been never will be.
The word you are looking for is "Viruses"

Snowmobile... While there aren't any running 9 (there are some in the works though).... There *are* some running 8 (6630 for example) which doesn't seem to be mentioned there either :P
The fsecure antivirus is best not run on older phones because it chews up all the memory and (reportedly) can crash older phones like a 3650 because of this. (don't ask me though i own a 6600)

Um, as a sidenote, i'm sure a bunch of word nerds like yourself said that 'bling' or 'blog' or 'pleather' aren't words and never will be as well.
get with the times man. words can become legit simply through popular use... 'correct' or not.
the word i'm looking for is 'loser'.
AD @ Dec 19th 2005 1:22AM
Yeah, 010111. I've got a word specially for you.
Twat.

Its called a neologism. It is a word that becomes correct with usage. Hell, even the word "computer" probably seemed stupid before we had computers.
Richard @ Dec 19th 2005 1:22AM
Please, pretty please, let's not let Engadget become Slashdot. "Virii" is not a word, and it is not like "bling", "blog", "pleather", or "computer" because there is already a correct word to describe the concept. But it doesn't matter. We all know that "virii" is just a "leet" way of saying "viruses". "Ain't" it "kewl"? "Pwn3d"!!!111!oneoneone!!!111!one!1

Why did no one comment on the usage of "automagic" in this dictionary fueled geek-off?

Is this where we register our ideas for new words? How about arg? As in, "Can you believe all these self important, cutting edge wannabes? ARG!" See, it can even be its own sentence. Someone call websters!
