F-Secure debunks car mobile phone virus myth

F-Secure no Bluetooth Cabir virus infection

So, you know, attendant with the advent of new technologies is The Fear that hackers will bring civilization to a grinding halt with them. So now that we have Bluetooth cars, Bluetooth cellphones, and Bluetooth mobile viruses, you gotta know that some company developing car anti-virus software is gonna want you to be afraid about it. Helsinki-based F-Secure took a Toyota Prius into a secure bunker (which served the dual role of isolating the vehicle from other cellphones and giving the project that top-secret vibe) and went at it with a Cabir-infected phone. The results? Nothing doing. They couldn't infect the car either by walking within range with the Cabir-loaded phone, or by manually trying to transfer the virus to the car. Feel free to rest easier at night, alright?
