When you first pop looking for group open, this is the screen you'll be greeted with at level 80. At the top, you'll notice that the old role selection has been given a face lift. Tanks are shields, healers are crosses, dps are swords (or maybe daggers), and the leader gets a flag. After all, you can't conquer anything without a flag. You'll also notice that 'Random Lich King Heroic' is selected and the 'Random Dungeon' quest is available that will return 2 Emblems of Frost and a little over 26 gold.
We also have the option of a random normal Lich King dungeon as well as the option to select specific dungeons to run. Let's take a look at those.
You'll notice that the rewards are less for the normal random dungeon than the heroic version of the quest. You also only get Emblems of Triumph instead of Emblems of Frost. Otherwise the rewards appear to be equal for the first quest.
Here we've got the specific dungeons selected. As you can see, a couple of the dungeons have little locks next to them. Trial of the Champion is generally locked down during PTR testing. Otherwise, it won't let me into Halls of Reflection which is because I haven't completely finished Pit of Saron due to a bug early on the PTR. The Dungeon Finder will enforce access to certain dungeons. For example, if you don't have the heroic key for Hellfire Citadel, then you won't be offered the heroics for those dungeons.
Well, I elected to run a random Lich King heroic for the daily quest. Immediately afterwards, this message popped up letting me know my group is ready. All I have to do is hit 'Enter Dungeon' to confirm. If my car suddenly catches on fire out in the driveway and I become otherwise occupied, then it will time out like the battleground queue does and kick me out. If I look at the clock and realize I suddenly have to be at my historic swordplay practice, I could always just click leave queue and it would also take me out.
Now that I've selected to enter the dungeon, we've just got to wait on the rest of the group. As you can see, we've got the tank and two dps ready, but are waiting on one dps and the healer.
We almost had the group ready. Whoever was queued to be our healer suddenly backed out. Please note that we haven't actually talked or interacted with anyone at this point. I don't know who these four other people are nor have I seem anything to let me know about their characters. We haven't checked gear scores, achievements, nor asked each other about dps, health, or spell power. Until you show up in the dungeon, all of these things are a mystery. They could be some of your guildies, but until we get to the dungeon, we won't know.
Yeah, we've seen this screen before. This means that the Dungone Finder has found us a new healer and is just double-checking to see if we're ready. I also did a quick mouse-over of the rewards to see how much gold it was offering for this quest.
In the default UI, they've added a few little icons to make things go a little smoother. The tank has a little shield icon (and being as I'm the tank, it's really tiny), the healers has a cross, and the dps have weapons. Also, I've got a little flag on me as well to designate that I'm the leader. People from other realms are designated with the (*) next to their names. Another thing to note is the little clock debuff on each player. That means that they can't use the Dungeon Finder for another 15 minutes. So, you've got 15 minutes to show that you know what you're doing in the instance (we had 2 bosses down at that point).
This isn't actually a feature of the Dungeon Finder, but of group looting in general. If there is an enchanter in your party, you'll get an extra button on your greed rolls which is a disenchant greed. This means that everyone can click on that and the winner gets the item pre-sharded without any intervention from the enchanter. For those realms with old traditions that look on this as sacrilegious, it's too bad. This is cross-realm looking for group system and that means that there will be new traditions to form.
You've killed the final boss! Congrats, your random dungeon rewards will pop automatically as part of that happening. I've highlighted my 26 gold and 2 Emblems of Frost out of the rest of the loot spam.
If you're using the random dungeon system and don't have a pre-made group that you picked yourself, then you will be forced to use Need Before Greed. In this photo you can see that even though I'm the leader, I can't change it. Dungeon difficulty is also blocked out, but that's no big deal. Oh, there's a little lightning bolt over Ep's icon in the background of this shot. That's showing he's disconnected. I don't play with the default user interface on the live realms, so I'm not sure if that's a new one or not. I thought I'd point it out just in case though.
Now that we've done our daily random heroic dungeon, let's see what it'll give us for a second one. Tada, we get half the rewards. Well, we get one step down in Emblems which reduces the Frost ones we got originally to Triumph badges. We also only get half the cash as the other run. This means that while you can run random heroics repeatedly, don't expect to get the big rewards for anything after the first one. Still, cash is cash.
I just thought I'd get the different role fluff texts in the top of the interface. Here we've got the tank text. The bad guy hits you. Yup, that's tanking in a nutshell.
Make sure your allies don't die. Especially the tank.
Kill stuff. Oh, and don't stand in fire, follow the tank's target, and don't stand in fire... or did I say that one?
This indicates that while you don't necessarily know this dungeon, you generally know how this stuff works. You can figure out pulls as well as explain basic strategy.
