Gather your supplies. Be sure to select leaves appropriately sized to match the size of your squashling.
Cut off a piece of wire that equals to double the size of the arms you'd like to use. Twist the wire around the stick in the center as indicated in the picture.
Remove the wire from the stick. Using your hot glue gun, apply some glue to a leaf. I used the top of the leaf, rather than the underside, because my particular leaf had thorns I wanted to expose.
Press the leaf firmly on the wire until it has adhered. Repeat for the other arm.
Begin to wrap your wire around the top of the stick, leaving room to place the head on the end. Place your arms back on the stick and work your vine down the body.
Do the same for the legs, but make two sets, four legs total. Wrap the vine around the rest of the body. Your stick should not extend too far from the legs, otherwise it will not stand properly.
Because we've used a vine-like wire, we can pose the legs and arms. Make sure that your squashling can stand up on his own.
Lightly draw an outline of the squashling's face on your pumpkin with pencil.
Paint the face of your pumpkin. I used yellow, orange and brown and mixed in gold paint with all three to give it a sparkle.
When your pumpkin's face is dry, poke the stick into the bottom of it's head.
Remove the head and glue four leaves at the bottom, taking care not to cover the hole. Place some additional glue inside the hole before you stick the head back on.
