Alcatel OneTouch isn't one of the bigger names among phone manufacturers, but with the Idol S it's built another solid and attractive handset that might turn a few heads -- as long as the device isn't out of battery.

The Idol S is a slick bar that Gearburn says "looks like a premium phone" and PC Pro says is "nothing short of stunning," with the "luxurious" soft-touch plastic on the back and "understated chrome-effect trim" adding up to create a "seriously classy-looking device." The screen is also up to snuff, with Expert Reviews calling it "a cut above your average budget smartphone screen."

A highly attractive smartphone with a great screen, decent performance and 4G support – all at a ridiculously low price.

The Alcatel One Touch Idol S could have been a great deal, if only it had remotely acceptable battery life. Photography buffs will surely want to look elsewhere. That said, there are plenty of other reasons to look into it: it has a beautiful screen, 4G compatibility and a low price.

The Alcatel One Touch Idol S is a seriously impressive phone for the price. It's a shame there's not more storage space, but its excellent battery life and smart design make it a joy to use.

Gearburn May 19, 2014

It scores major wins for build quality and style, the display and its multitasking abilities, but it is let down by a finicky touch screen and camera. But it’s still one of my favourite budget devices.

We liked how thin and manageable the handset feels in your palm, so we are waiting for price and availability info from Alcatel, which shouldn't be far behind, and shouldn't be breaking the bank, judging from the other members of the One Touch family so far.
