Can you sell me on Yosemite
First off, I think it needs to be said that I'm very lazy; I haven't upgraded yet. But I just don't see the point of Yosemite. It appears to be a UI update. There is a little more to why I haven't upgraded. Each time a new version of OS X comes out, I have to root around, pun intended, to figure out which programs were downgraded(php, git, other CLI tools) and which were just straight up removed(wget). I just don't see what benefit this Yosemite brings to the table that will be worth my time...

What's up with my Mac? Spinning beach balls in Yosemite.
In the last few weeks, certain apps on my MacBook Pro have become excruciatingly slow. I've noticed that it ONLY happens with writing apps (ByWord, IA Writer, Write) and basically any operation involving opening up Finder results in a locked up program for about 30 seconds to a minute.
Interestingly, this doesn't happen in any other app. I can open Finder just fine in things like Chrome, or even coding apps like Sublime and Atom. No... Read more →

Yosemite Wifi Issues
Given the number of users complaining on the Apple forums of wifi issues I thought I would start this thread in the hope Engadget might help hold Apple to account. I am one of the people who noticed issues but here's the summary.
- Yosemite seems to use some variant of Bonjour for their multiple device sync voodoo that they are trumpeting with this latest update
- This seems to cause massive wifi issues for all devices on the network, including iOS and otherwise
Personally, when I upgraded my brand... Read more →

Why Are Apple Haters so Vicious?
I've always really wondered about this. There are so many people I know who have never owned a Mac or an iPhone or an iPad and probably once swore by their iPod, yet utterly DESPISE Apple. Many of these people get excited when they hear of Apple's blunders and just talk **** about their successes.
Personally, I like to think of myself as a technology lover. I'll love a company if their releasing... Read more →

Tried everything. Still no continuity.
Hello! I have an iPhone 5s on iOS8 and a 2013 MBAir on Yosemite.
Bluetooth is turned on on both
They're both on the same wifi network
They're both logged in to the same iCloud account
The "Handoff" and "iPhone cellular calls" buttons are both on on the phone
The "Allow Handoff" button in settings and the "iPhone cellular calls" button in FaceTime is on on the computer
I've tried
Logging into and out of iCloud and restarting both devices
Turning bluetooth on and off
Testing bluetooth by sending files back... Read more →

Let's get automated!
One of the benefits of computing is being able to take everyday tasks and making them simpler to accomplish. Over the years what we can do has gotten more and more powerful while also getting quite easy. It seems like an eternity ago I remember reading everyone going nuts over Quicksilver []. Which since has been replaced by Alfred [] or LaunchBar [ ] as the go-to Spotlight... Read more →

Best desktop chat client for OSX?
I've been a long time user of Adium and it's pretty good at doing it's one job: acting a central point for multiple chat services. However it's pretty long in the tooth in terms of updating. The last one was in May 2013, and before that it was December 2012.
Is there any modern client now that is good at handling multiple services, including Google's Hangout service? Adium does XMPP but the Hangout integration is pretty medicore and doesn't pull in group Hangouts. I would switch to Messages but I... Read more →

Are you running the OSX Yosemite Public Beta? Share your thoughts!
The OSX Yosemite public beta is currently live to the public [1], and if you're one of the lucky ones who got a code I'm sure you have it installing already. Dana has been kind enough to give some thoughts and opinions on the new OS[2], so now we're curious what you to say. If you were one of the fortunate ones to get the beta key, how are you like the big changes so far?
I personally will not be signing up for the program since I don't want to run into issues with any unsupported software.

How to install OS X Yosemite inside VirtualBox
Yosemite's first developer preview was released right after Monday's WWDC opening keynote. For the general public, an open beta will be available to download later this summer. However, for those who want a sneak peek at the new hotness, there is a way to safely install it without risking your machine, using the free and powerful VirtualBox application from Oracle.
Steps (most likely, the Engadget forums are going to bork the formatting, I'll drop in a Pastebin link... Read more →

Let's talk about the WWDC keynote right here!

Apple's kicks off WWDC 2014 with their keynote which starts in about 15 minutes. For many, it's like a nerd Christmas. (For others, it's annoying and obnoxious.) Regardless, there's bound to be a lot of interesting news. Let's talk about it right here!

Who's ready? I know I am!
