The PadFone Mini has diamond-cut edges and a spun-metal finish that’s a trademark of ASUS devices, such as its Transformer Book T100. The phone is coated with a soft-touch ceramic finish.

Altogether, the PadFone Mini unit weighs 0.82 pounds and it's powered by a 1.6GHz Atom Z2560 processor from Intel. It's equipped with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage space. If you feel like you'll need more space for your photos and videos, memory can be expanded.

The tablet hardware comes off as somewhat cheap-feeling, which is in direct contract with the phone itself. It is light, but feels hollow. The buttons all work fine and are positioned well enough. I didn't have any issues using the tablet with the phone docked inside, but it is bulky.

The design of the PadFone mini shares common ground with that of the rest of the new Asus boys -- the ZenFones and, also, the bigger, more premium PadFone X. This means that we're treated to a soft-touch plastic rear that feels grippy and ergonomic in the hand.

The specs aren’t half-bad, but they certainly won’t blow anyone away. Being honest, the 800 x 480 resolution is a little bit disappointing, especially when using the device as a 7-inch tablet.

From the front, it's extremely reminiscent of the ASUS Fonepad. Powering the device is a 1.6GHz Intel Z2560 CPU backed up by 1GB of RAM. On the software front we're coming with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box.

Taking the Padfone range from a high-end gadget freak's dream to something more accessible hasn't made the Padfone mini shed its slightly oddball skin, but with a lower price it makes more sense than previous models.

The phone’s specs aren’t all that impressive — it has a an Atom Z2560 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage and the display resolution is rather anemic at 800 x 480 pixels. But the build quality is pretty solid and the phone feels really good in the hand.

Overall, the PadFone Mini is a nice little gadget, especially considering its $249 price tag. That's really an unprecedented price for a both a phone and tablet, and while it's definitely not meant for everyone, it's an appealing entry-level piece of kit for the right person.

We like the design, especially Asus’ color choices, but I also wasn’t so fond of the fact that it adds a bit of bulk to the device. Coming from a Nexus 7, I really like the thinness that comes in a 7-inch slate.

First on the positives - 1. Unlike other padfones and other phone manufacturers, Asus did a good job of having a removable battery. 2. The dual sim card (micro sim) is another great plus. 3. Having flash and extra pixel camera, helps in geeting good night photos, compared to lot of other...
