Canon's PowerShot D20 is a tough camera that can take good shots in almost any environment, including underwater. However, it's somewhat slow, its movie mode isn't the best, and it's more expensive than the Olympus Tough TG-820, which has most of the same features, and is faster at shooting multiple images. Unlike the Olympus, the D20 has built-in GPS, so if you're traveling a lot, and want your images geotagged, it's a better choice. Otherwise, the TG-820 is a better value.

The D20 is a solid outdoor camera, particularly well-suited to casual photographers who want a hands-off, user-friendly experience. Otherwise, there isn’t much here to separate the D20 from the herd of tough-cams.

It’s almost there in some departments, but the current lowest £280 price point is rather steep for what's on offer, and the quirky design marks it down.

The Canon D20 is a better-than-average looking tough cam that sports a surprising sharp lens and impressive underwater stills capability. But get ready to sacrifice action shots, because a speed demon this is not.
