mobile operating systems
Hi all, seeing as most users on here have a good understanding of tech, i was hoping for a small request in getting some feedback through my questionnaire.
Im currently doing research on mobile os as part of my final year dissertation in computing and would be extremely grateful for those who could fill it out. Ive approached companies head on and they don't seem to have the time to spare 5 minutes (less than that even) to fill it out. No personal details are required, just simple information on... Mobile Equals Slavery
(thoughts on Android, CyanogenMod, and mobile devices)
[see the meta article for the back story on this series of articles - http://www.engadget.com/discuss/leaving-google-eternal-annoyance-is-the-price-of-liberty-1plj/]

Canonical has dropped pricing again for the Edge, bringing it down to $695. They have until August 21st to raise the 32MM and they're currently at only (I know, I know) 8.5MM. With 14 days to go, I'm just not entirely optomistic they can make up that other 23MM in time. I know when the project first launched they raised 7MM fairly quickly, but since then it's only gone up roughly 1.5MM.
I know I'm speaking about these numbers like they're small and I fully recognize that raising 8.5MM is really... Read more →

Canonical's Ubuntu Edge.
Looks like the first phone with Ubuntu OS (and Android!) is coming through a sort-of kickstarter campaign.
This phone has 4gb of ram and 128gb of storage. It will be able to run a full desktop Ubuntu OS as well as the mobile Ubuntu and Android.
Although it looks impressive, it is largely untested technology, made by a company with no experience in phones. Also I worry... Read more →
