Designed to compete with other high-end, big-screen laptops like the MacBook Pro, the XPS 15 has a great, full HD display, fast Intel processors, and a graphics processor that should be able to handle most current games. Battery life is also very good for a full-size laptop, and the XPS 15 should be able to handle almost anything you throw at it, including mainstream productivity apps, media-editing tools, and games. Just be prepared to pay a premium: if you want the fastest available processor, graphics engine, and a Blu-ray drive, you'll pay at least $1,699. Add a solid-state drive and you'll go well above $2,000, putting it into MacBook Pro with Retina display territory.

The Editors' Choice Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Retina Display) stays on top, but the Dell XPS 15 takes a close second place with strong performance and a much more affordable price. If you're in the market for a premium laptop, the Dell XPS 15 is an easy choice among Windows PCs.

Dell demonstrates independence at the casing already, but offers the same perfect manufacturing quality as the established Apple MacBooks. Aluminium and Gorilla Glass guarantee stability and velvety soft-touch surfaces for very elegant haptic. A notebook cannot be much more high-quality than this.
