Dropcam's latest camera offers great image quality in a user-friendly package. While a name like "Pro" implies a higher level of quality, this camera more than lives up to the moniker, with Android Police calling out its "pretty damn stellar" images and "great" video quality. Laptop Magazine was impressed by the improvement in night time shooting, with the difference being "night and day," noting that the Pro's enhanced night vision makes it "very easy to distinguish objects." CNET was also pleased to note that the Pro also features "improved audio quality" to go with the improvement in imaging. While the $200 price tag doesn't make the Dropcam Pro an easy buy for most people, those willing to shell out the dough won't be let down by its excellent performance in all lighting situations.

I haven't tested every IP camera that's out there but the Dropcam Pro, while fairly pricey, appears to have some of the best -- if not the best -- video quality of any consumer-grade camera available today ... importantly, it's easy to to set up and use.

A few more enhancements to the Pro include a more sensitive microphone for better audio, the addition of dual-band WiFi for less interference and the introduction of Bluetooth LE. The latter is particularly intriguing, because it allows for instant camera setup.

The Pro lens – now a six-element, all-glass assembly – has a 20-percent wider field of view than the Dropcam, at 130-degrees, while the microphone doubles the sampling rate for clearer audio. The integrated speaker has been improved, too, for a boost in loudness and clarity.

If you want something that “just works”, Dropcam remains the best solution, but the initial hardware cost is higher. Dropcam is also the easiest setup by far when it comes to video recording, with zero setup at all.

Well, the product quality, video, and audio are really good. It may not be the most cost effective solution for mass use. I have multiple motion sensors, M5 models from proteussensor.com, and then to cover it all, I have this master video feed. So, the combination works great.
