There's no question the Garmin nuvi 3490LMT is a great GPS unit, and its powered mount, high-resolution display, and interface enhancements are nice features. However, at a time when just about every smartphone can double as a GPS unit, the 3490LMT is a bit too pricey for what it offers, especially when you can get Garmin's nuvi 2595LMT for over $100 less. Like the 3490LMT, the 2595LMT includes lifetime traffic and map updates, and most of the other key functions of the more expensive model (though you lose the powered mount).

If you're looking for the best Garmin that money can buy, look no further than the Nuvi 3490 LMT--you won't be disappointed. However, those looking for the sweet spot of functionality and value on Garmin's menu may want to look a little lower on the totem pole.

... the Garmin 3490LMT is just about unbeatable, with a more forward-thinking interface design than its rivals and far more responsive screen. It hasn’t quite reached its destination, but the 3490LMT has got farther down the road than anything else at this point.

Overall the nuvi 3490LMT is a nice model. Hopefully the HD traffic reception issues will be resolved over time. For myself and for now, I’d go with one of the 2x95LMT models over the 3490LMT.

I've had a Garmin GPS and this new one is replacing the older model. As a realtor I rely on my GPS to get me places without a hitch. Living in southern California there are lots of traffic glitches occuring on a daily bases. This GPS finds me the quickest route to a location. And, when...

I think for most people, this is a great (if expensive) unit. But it's not what I wanted. I'm looking to replace an older streetpilot that I'm very familiar with. The current Garmin line simply doesn't attempt to replicate the features on the older units. Graphics are simpler and don't...
