The HP Chromebook 14 offers a lot for a low price. This affordable laptop provides excellent battery life, a colorful display and an attractive design in your choice of three color options. Plus, there's a built-in 4G connection--albeit HSPA+--for when you're outside of Wi-Fi range.

We may not have a true midrange Chromebook yet, but for users who need a little extra oomph in their laptops, the 4G model of the HP Chromebook 14 is a low-compromise low-cost system that gets a lot of things right.

... with a better screen, more RAM, and a larger hard drive, the Chromebook 14 would be one of the best $399 or $449 laptops on the market, one that I would happily recommend ... But as is, you’re better off spending $50 less and buying Acer’s C720...

The HP Chromebook 14 is a big improvement on the HP’s first Chromebook offering and with the added 3G support makes it an affordable option you can actually take out and about. This is a great feature, but we're less enamoured with the screen and so-so touchpad.

As the name suggests, the Chromebook 14 has a 14-inch display with 1,366 x 768 resolution. It looked bright enough underneath the convention center's lighting, though it's difficult to tell after just a few minutes of use. It's certainly not the lightest Chromebook we've ever held.

While we did appreciate its soft matte exterior finish, which felt smooth to the touch, once opened, we were immediately reminded of how cheap this thing is. The palm rest is made of faux-metal plastic that gives the device an unmistakably low-quality feel.

At 3.98 pounds, the HP Chromebook 14 is easy to carry and just as easy to use. The notebook’s aluminum body has a textured set of white island keys, which made typing quick and comfortable ... and Web pages looked clear and rich during our time with the device.

In the few minutes we got to spend with the new Chromebook 14, the design feels surprisingly solid. This is in spite of the fact that the new Chromebook 14 is (to borrow a phrase from Apple) "unapologetically plastic" and inexpensive.

The latest HP Chromebook has a different feel to its predecessor. It's all matte plastic and the lid has a smooth, almost rubbery feel to it... The keys have a similar matte feel to them, but the size makes for a decent typing experience. The trackpad, too, is a smooth pad - possibly a bit too much...

First a few things about me: I'm 62yo and I've been building my own PC's since the timex sinclair. I am IBM Application Developer for 18 years and wife and I have 4 desktops and 5 laptops. My Chromebook experience: shopping was a nightmare. The sales people at both Be??Buy and St??les, where I...

Reasonably impressed with the HP Chromebook 14. My expectations were low, to be fair, and they've comfortably exceeded. Where there are limitations, for the most part, they are with the Chromebook concept rather than with HP's implementation. The keyboard's the ubiquitous 'chicklet' style, but...
