Engadget Review

The Mini might not be for everyone, but at the very least it's a clear improvement over the original Jambox for the same price.

As you'd expect, the Mini Jambox pumps out surprisingly loud sound, given its petite frame. What's interesting is that the unibody aluminum casing (designed by Chief Creative Officer Yves Behar) acts as both an enclosure and an acoustic cavity for the two internal drivers.

For its size, the Mini Jambox is still quite impressive. If you crave portability and battery power, and if you are willing to sacrifice bass and volume to get them, the Mini Jambox is a solid buy.

While the Mini delivered more oomph than the speakers of your average smartphone or tablet, it didn't measure up to my memory of the sonics of larger wireless speakers.

Overall, there’s a lot to like about the MINI JAMBOX, and in fact the convenience of the smaller, lighter form-factor means we’d probably lean toward it rather than the original JAMBOX.

The price is right if you're interested in what the Mini Jambox has to offer -- namely, a stylish, well-built Bluetooth speaker with extended app functionality ... the Mini is a clear improvement over the original for the same price.

In a funny way, the Mini Jambox is a 2013 version of what the original Jambox was in 2010: A Bluetooth speaker that aims to be so intensely portable and personal that you’ll take it nearly anywhere.

While other companies have stood out among wireless speakers with software tricks and larger designs, Jawbone has leveled-up the category by going back to basics.

The Mini Jambox is made for those moments -- at a park, at an impromptu gathering with a few friends, when you're showing someone a viral video -- when your phone or tablet's internal speaker isn't going to cut it.

So, yeah, it's definitely smaller, and it would definitely fit into a backpack more easily (though it couldn't look/feel good in jeans pockets) but we're not exactly talking night and day here.
