Detailed review
I dont know why I have seen negative reviews for this laptop. Ive seen people complaining about the touchpad, personally, I like the touchpad, sure it's not as good as the macbook pro trackpads but it's very sensitive for light touch clicking and is desgined to be pretty functional as you can click easily from any spot on the touchpad. I use a mouse anyway so that's really not a feature im too concerned about when buying a computer. Another thing Ive seen people complaing about is the overall design. Personally, I think this computer looks really cool. On top of that this computer really feels like it's built to last, the fan runs smooth and quiet and it just feels like everythings got a nice amount of room to breath in this 15.5 inch shell. Another pluss on the form for me is the built-in stand on the bottom of the computer about a centimeter high, ensuring constant proper ventilation.

I got this computer a week ago with a 256gb ssd and, the i7 4800mq, this thing is lightning fast when it comes to speed, opening programs like photoshop and final cut takes half a second and overall processing speed is incredible. I don't use the AUTO CAD in my line of work but anyone looking to do serious audio/video/photo editing on this computer is going to be very satisfied.

Other key specs for me included the thunderbolt port and quadro graphics card. Not to mention up to 32gb ram.

This is overall one of the best computers on the market and certainly one of, if not the best mobile workstation out there in my opinion.

Thanks for your review. As a former W530 (current retina MBP) user, I've been following the W540 for a while. It's nice to see the rare positive review on this machine and difficult to sift through the negative reviews - I feel like half of them made their decision before they even laid hands on the machine.

You mentioned final cut (OSX only program). Did you hackintosh the W540 already or was that a typo?

Hi McTesh I'm sorry to mislead you there on the final cut thing, I suppose I was all hyped up with my new computer i just said final cut for dramatic effect (I was a mac owner before i switched to the w540), but I actually edit on avid media composer. just remember, this computer is only supported by media composer version 6.5.4 or LATER. If you try installing an earlier version the program will freeze at the start-up screen. However, I am currently using media composer 7 and it runs like a dream.
