NBA 2K15 Platform Discussion
As a faithful Playstation devotee for the past eighteen years, I find myself interested in buying the new PS4 despite my waning attention to video gaming in recent years.
However, I find myself figuratively salivating after seeing the gorgeous screen caps for NBA 2K15.
Sound Off:
1 - What do you think is the best platform for this game?
2 - Would I sacrifice too much (e.g., graphics, game play, experience, etc.) if I were to just purchase the game for PS3 which I already have?
[This was my first...

Destiny is coming!
Tomorrow Destiny arrives for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Reviewers started receiving their copies over the weekend and the servers went online today. Of course, that means no day-one reviews tomorrow, so gamers will be picking the game up tomorrow based on the Bungie name, the pre-release news and trailers and of course, the hype.
Bungie explained their decision... Read more →

What are the worst games you ever played?
ET may go down as one of the worst games ever made. If it's not at the top of every worst-of list, it's usually in the top three. It wasn't considered a bad game because of the era it was released, it was just a downright bad game. Critics slammed it for it's controls and called it a repetitive game. The game was so bad it's been long rumored that Atari dumped every remaining game... Read more →

What's in your home-theater setup?
After about three years of building, scrimping and saving my home theater is finally complete and I'm curious what the Engadget forum-members have in their theater or living room. Here's my setup:
Display: 65" Panasonic VT60
Speakers: Klipsch Quintet (they're the 2011 models),
Subwoofer: 12-inch Klipsch Synergy HG 300W (it hits 24Hz and makes me very happy)
A/V Receiver: Onkyo TXNR515
Components: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Wii U, a crappy Comcast SD cable box, Chromecast
Oh and for... Read more →

Pathmaking in Games
I am working on a Master's thesis in architecture and am interested in pathmaking and pathfinding as they are implemented in the virtual worlds of gaming. There appear to be two basic approaches to both: manual (i.e., designed) and procedural (i.e., algorithmic like roguelikes). My goal is to apply strategies garnered from an analysis of these topics to an architectural design (e.g., museum or game design company offices). Does anyone know of any good resources I could read or search out?

Favorite games from 2013
We've had some exciting gaming discussions here in the forums over the past year. We talked about our initial impressions of the new consoles, if Nintendo can survive, and even what games we're all playing. As the year wraps up I thought it'd be fun to get a good idea of the communities favorite games to come out in 2013. This serves as a great way to check out games you may have missed or forgotten about.
QuizUp (iOS): This is nothing more than a simple trivia game that you can play against... Read more →

RE: PlayStation 4 or Xbox One: Which game console to buy this holiday
Today, Ben Gilbert posted on article in which he gives his opinion on which console to buy this holiday season. I realize that everyone has their opinion and since Ben shared his, I would like to share mine.
To be quite frank, the PS4 and the Xbox One are not worth the money right now. Here's why I believe so:
  • Both consoles are missing out key features that were promised and are waiting on updates in the "future" . In some cases, these "next-gen" consoles lack basic functionality that their...

What are your most anticipated games for this holiday season?
With 2 new console releases, launch titles, and too many other games to count coming out this holiday season, it can be tough deciding which games to preorder and purchase versus those to wait on. There are the big AAA titles coming to all consoles, and then there are the smaller Indie titles. It can be hard keeping track of the delays, release dates, and sheer number of games being released.
If you are on iOS and need help keeping track of it all, I've been using this great app called Launch... Read more →

Will Nintendo rebound?
It is almost shocking to talk about it, but just a few years ago, Nintendo was dominating the console wars. Everybody and their mother wanted to have the Nintendo Wii. It was a game changer in terms of the way you play your games. It was a breath of fresh air in the eyes of many and together with the Nintendo DS, Nintendo ruled the gaming world.
Suddenly, Microsoft's Xbox 360 started increasing in sales due to the Kinect and with the low sales of the Wii U, it seems that Nintendo may be losing... Read more →

Turtle beach headphones connected to xbox360 slim hdmi ceiling hung projector
Does anyone know how to connect this? I have a ceiling mounted projector and Xbox 360 slim and Turtle beach headset. I have an HDMI cord going from projector to Xbox. I bought the analog audio adapter and plugged it into the back of the Xbox. I plugged the headset into the white and red component plugs of the adapter. Headset doesn't work. What did I do wrong? Any advice would be most appreciated. I haven't been able to find the answer to this anywhere.

Call it the Surface Player: Why Microsoft needs an iPod touch competitor
Maybe I'm only saying this because the Zune HD never got the love it deserved, but Microsoft should come out with a Windows Phone-based competitor to the iPod touch (i.e. a smartphone without the phone part). Why? Because it would help establish Windows Phone as a viable platform. Challenging the iPod touch isn't going to tip the balance for Microsoft all on its own, but having one could make things a little easier (and it probably would not upset Microsoft's OEM partners as much as doing a... Would you buy a Microsoft tablet?
Word is that Microsoft is planning to announce its own tablet at an event planned for next Monday. While plenty of companies recently announced Windows 8 tablets at Computex, Microsoft apparently feels it needs its own tablet to compete effectively against Apple. As All Things D puts it:
Sources say that Microsoft concluded that it needs its own tablet, with the company designing both the hardware and software in an effort to better compete against Apple’s strengths. Microsoft’s tablets may... Read more →

Xbox 360 Network Storage Server Idea
Many households, organizations, and events have multiple Xbox 360s being used. Transferring content from one to the other frequently through Cloud Storage or flash drives can get repetitive.
What if there were a NAS (Network attached storage) server that could store all the data used for all Xbox 360s on the local network? Things like profiles, game saves, movies, and even games and DLC could be installed on it. It would become the assigned device of the digital download licences. It would be... Read more →

Buy a Windows machine, get a free Xbox 360 (if you're a student)
It's that time of year again—just like last year, Microsoft is offering a free Xbox 360 system (4GB) to any student in the United States or Canada who purchases a "qualifying" Windows PC worth $699 or more ($599 in Canada). This is to catch all those kids just out of high school and getting ready for college.
The deal begins May 20 in the US, May 18 in Canada. Just show a valid student ID to one of the participating retailers for the freebie. Those "participating retailers" include Best Buy,... Read more →

Microsoft is planning to launch a subsidized Xbox 360 Kinect bundle for $99. Will you buy one?
Rumors are showing up today that Microsoft is looking to release a new Kinect bundle next week at a subsidized price of $99. This will get you the Xbox 360 4GB + Kinect + 2 years of warranty + 2 years of Gold membership for $99 on a two year contract. There is reportedly some extra content but nothing has been specified yet as to what the content is. The caveat though is that there will be a $15/month charge which will also have an early termination fee attached to it. Oh yeah and for the time... Read more →
