If you want a rugged AT&T handset, pick NEC's sturdy Terrain, but those in search of a more stylish device should consider the pocket-friendly Samsung Rugby Pro.

It's a bit chunky for a phone, to be sure, but at 6.06 ounces it's still eminently portable. In fact, the rounded edges and soft finish make it more comfortable to hold than some of the more minimal handsets we've seen recently.

The phone feels indestructible. It's surrounded by textured rubber, and I bounced it off the table, dunked it in water, and smeared gritty mud all over it without causing any problems. The four-row QWERTY keyboard has decently sized keys.

The Terrain runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is thankfully a stock version thereof, and has no customizations from either NEC or AT&T. The software ran well on the device we used, and all the familiar aspects of Android were present and accounted for.
