Does Nokia need another budget Windows Phone?

This phone just can't hold its own against the Lumia 620, and we don't think the modest savings are worth it.

The Lumia 520 offers a full-fledged, fluid and friendly smartphone experience, but it sits in the shadow of the 620 ... in this case, we're still so attached to the 620's design and extra features that we just can't recommend the 520 to a mainstream budget audience.

The pay-as-you-go Nokia Lumia 520 is a solid introductory smartphone on AT&T's Go Phone prepaid service, provided photography isn't a priority.

If you're looking for a cheap smartphone, you may have just found it. The Nokia Lumia 520 doesn't tick all the boxes on our features wishlist, but it capably handles those that are most important.

The Nokia Lumia 520 is a great little smartphone. It delivers what Nokia is known for, with good design and build quality, despite the affordable price point. A few hardware shortcuts have been made ... But at this price there's little to criticise.

The Nokia Lumia 520 cuts all the fat off Nokia’s more expensive Windows Phone 8 Lumia phones to bring the slick Windows experience to budget buyers. There are missing features, but most aren’t missed. This is a fab budget phone.

When talking entry-level smartphones, it's all about cutting the right corners and ticking the right boxes and the latest Nokia smartphone comes across as a superbly balanced phone.

This is a tremendous phone. It looks good, feels stylish, has most of the features you’re likely to be looking for and performs well using Microsoft’s swish Windows Phone 8 operating system.

While it felt a little cheaper (as one would expect with such a low-end handset), it still seemed to be held together quite solidly.

In the hand, it feels lightweight, though not flimsy. The screen—4", 800×480— is bright and clear enough, but its blacks looked decidedly gray, even when I had it set to the lowest brightness.

This device is a bit of a shell in the way it appears in the hand, with the front being more of a flat experience while the back bubbles out, and the edges are sharp.

The Lumia 520 is the Nokia's cheapest Windows Phone to date and will retail for less than US$200 when it hits the market. It is likely to offer excellent value for money.

We decided to take a closer look at the Windows Phone, which was unveiled to the world earlier today, and while it's targeting emerging markets we weren't left feeling disappointed.

Although the Nokia Lumia 520 misses out on a few bells and whistles, such as the secondary camera and NFC, getting a great-performing phone for under £150 alone sounds like a fair deal to us.

We rather like the Lumia 520 - Nokia clearly has a market in mind for the device and has given it a price point to match. It's not a handset for those who really want a Windows Phone, but rather it's one for those who want a budget smartphone.

This phone is the best phone you can get for ~$100 with no contract. That's right, for $100 on AT&T you can get this without a contract. Mine was slightly more ($120) on Rogers in Canada, but it came with both the glossy cyan and matte black back covers. To justify my statement, the only...

A very good phone for its price and also having the quality of being a Nokia phone. Maybe the screen should be better but in the normal situations it is pretty decent. Also the lack of flash is sometimes a problem but most android phones in this price dont have one too
