It gives me that feeling of Leica superiority without the expense. The Micro Four Thirds system may have originated in Japan, but the romance of shooting on the latest systems is purely European.

The best Micro Four Thirds camera we've seen so far, Panasonic's Lumix DMC-GF1 offers a D-SLR experience in a body that's not much bigger than a superzoom camera.

And I'm here to say that, if you crave a Micro Four Thirds for the same reason, it's my opinion that the GF1 works well enough that, well, that's OK. I'm just not trading my dSLR for one.

The compact design means inevitable compromises when compared to a 'full size' SLR, but the GF1 gets so much right that it's a real winner in our eyes. Great image quality, a well-rounded feature set and surprisingly zippy performance put it a little ahead of the Olympus E-P1.

It ... gets our vote as the current most successful marriage of DSLR functionality with compact portability and usability.

Noise issues aside, the GF1 was a pleasure to use and small enough to fit in a small messenger bag or backpack instead of a large camera bag.So if a DSLR is too big, and you want better image quality and higher-end controls than you can get in a compact, the Panasonic GF1 may be for you.

In the Lumix GF1 Panasonic has created a camera that I'm sure will come to be regarded as a classic. It really does offer comparable flexibility and image quality to a good digital SLR in a form that can slip into a jacket pocket.

The GF1 ... delivers the goods: much better performance than a traditional compact at high sensitivities, along with higher dynamic range and the potential for much shallower depth-of-field effects. In short, it’s a world apart from what you’ll achieve with a typical compact.

The GF1 is an interesting camera with the potential to attract a wide cross-section of users. On the one hand it can appeal to novice shooters with its host of automatic and scene shooting modes, face recognition technology and compact size.

The Panasonic Lumix GF1, with its fine performance, handling and size, comes closest so far to fulfilling the Micro Four Thirds promise of having near-DSLR quality in a near-compact body.

I love this camera! I think the small, tidy body is great for taking around when a full system isn't possible and the picture quality is excellent. Noise levels are controlled well and the only thing I'd like to see is a high ISO NR option to join the long exposure mode that's already available.

The GF1 is a great little micro 4/3 camera. It has a compact form factor which makes it easy to carry all day every day. If you're used to rangefinders you'll feel at home pretty quickly with this camera. Paired with the 20mm 1.7 pancake lens, it makes for a pocketable camera with nice...
