The Pentax Q10 is the smallest interchangeable lens camera currently available, and sells for less than its predecessor, the largely identical Q. However, other than its petite profile, the Q10 doesn't have a lot going for it compared to other mirrorless compact systems, such as the Olympus PEN line or the Sony NEX series. PC Mag calls the Q10 a "cute camera" with "performance issues" including sluggish startup and autofocus speeds. TechRadar also found the Q10 disappointing, pointing out that "image quality falls short of cameras equipped with a large sensor." While TechRadar says the camera could still be worthwhile if you "value compactness above all else," the site warns that you should be "well aware of its strengths, and its weaknesses."

The Pentax Q10 is a tiny interchangeable lens camera with a point-and-shoot sized sensor, but it doesn't perform as well as other cameras in its price range.

Shoppers interested in the Q10 should understand that they're essentially buying into a very well-built, very expensive toy camera system. Maybe the large selection of toy lenses was already tip-off enough, but if not, understand this: the Q system exists for the sake of quirk, and quirk alone.

When compared to advanced compact cameras, the Pentax Q10 has a lot going for it. Image quality falls short of cameras equipped with a larger sensor. This camera is better suited to those who value compactness above all else.

Like the Lomo camera range, the Q10's inherent cute-ness, portability and affordability will win it more friends than its limited performance capabilities.

If you are interested in a mirrorless camera with improved image quality you'd be better looking at those with larger sensors. If you're keen on keeping size down but want the luxury of being able to change to different lenses, the Q10 is a good option...

The Pentax Q10 may look like a toy camera at first glance, but it actually proves to be a lot more full featured and intuitive to use in practice.
