details
http://i.imgur.com/itTFPey.gif
We're getting a lot of exciting phone announcements over the last week.
IFA gave us the following:
  • Galaxy Note Edge
  • Galaxy Note 4
  • Samsung Galaxy Alpha
  • LG G3 Stylus
  • Sony Xperia Z3
  • Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
That same week Motorola also showcased the following:
  • Moto X
  • Moto G
And tomorrow is Apple's big day where we'll likely be seeing a new iPhone (or two).
The thing is, even with all this exciting new stuff I don't have any urge to upgrade. I bought my iPhone 5S on release day and a... Read more →

What are the best earbuds (non in-ear) around?
details
I want to start using headphones/earbuds again but it has to be the standard ones.
I can't use the in-ear types.
HTC was known for making great headphones, which is why it didn't make any sense to me why they invested in Beats for all those years.
My go to headset was from the HTC Desire Z, and what I liked about it was it had the Skip track buttons and Pause/Resume button. Also worked for Volume and Answer/Hang call, It had a microphone. It was black. They were comfortable. But these sets didn't... Read more →

One of the strongest features with Android is the ability to set third party apps to be the default app of choice for certain actions. Don't like using Hangouts? Install Textra and you're good to go. Need more features from your camera? Don't worry because CameraZoomFX has loads more.
Today on Engadget we offered up some of the best alternatives to default apps... Read more →

What is going on over at Google!?
details
Google is certainly busy in the mobile space with news coming out about an agreement with Samsung, and the potential sale of Motorola Mobility to Lenovo.
First, there is Samsung (http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/29/google-and-sam... who has made an agreement with Google to tone down the total amount of customization on Samsung phones. I don't doubt anyone will disagree this is a good thing because Touchwiz has been two steps forward in features but always one step back in appearance.
Right after... Read more →

"The iPad is just a big iPod touch"
details
That’s the line that went around a few years ago when the first iPad was announced. As time has gone by and I’ve given the matter more thought, I realize those people were right.
As phones get larger and larger ( 3.5" iPhone -> 5.7" Galaxy Note 3) and tablets get smaller and smaller (10" iPad -> 7" Nexus 7), it becomes more evident to me that they’re essentially the same product category.
Think about it - for every iPad app, you could have a smaller version on the iPhone that does the... Read more →
