Operation Finish all the Games, September 2014
So I'm a few days late, but maybe it's perfectly timed: Super Smash Bros. 3DS is out today! We'll probably be picking it up soon. Hopefully it won't distract me too much from my resolution to...
Once more, here are the rules:
  1. I have to finish or beat at least one game a month. That basically means reaching whatever counts as an ending to the story mode, usually prompting a credits scroll.
  2. Side-quests and...

Forget next gen, I want Sega
New consoles are nice, and games are getting pretty awesome, but I always think back to Sega and how I wished they could have hung around a bit longer. Sure, they live on as a software company, but I feel the golden age of Sega was something rather magical.
I think it goes without saying how important the Genesis and Master System were, ushering in impressive software franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog. What I loved about Sega though was they always managed to be... Read more →

What are the worst games you ever played?
ET may go down as one of the worst games ever made. If it's not at the top of every worst-of list, it's usually in the top three. It wasn't considered a bad game because of the era it was released, it was just a downright bad game. Critics slammed it for it's controls and called it a repetitive game. The game was so bad it's been long rumored that Atari dumped every remaining game... Read more →

Remember boot discs we used to play import games? I used to buy burned games from people at school for dirt cheap. No mod chip required... and Bleem?
I just dusted off my dreamcast and found Bleem for gran turismo 2. Its crazy to have a mass produced emulator that i probably bought at toys r us or someplace back in the day. I don't think we'll ever see that again! I love my dreamcast all over again! i hooked it up with a vga cable to my hdtv and it still looks great after all these years. even better than my ps2!

The reason why you bought the Dreamcast...
Albeit it's 10th birthday was yesterday, let's chime in on why we all bought the console. For me, it was NFL2K. My brother and I really liked playing Madden on the Playstation and also Blitz on the N64. When I got the Dreamcast, it was bundled with NFL2K and Sonic Adventure (Costco bundle). We popped in NFL2K and was BLOWN AWAY on how great the graphics were on it, especially when they zoom in on the players walking back to the line after a play. We both logged at least 10 hours of... Happy 10th Anniversay to the Sega Dreamcast!!! 09/09/09
With all that's happening today (Apple Music Event, Beatles releases, New Leica M9 and X1 Camera releases); let's not forget that it was 10 years ago today, that one of the most endearing Game Consoles was released in the U.S. (released in Japan; November 27, 1998). Let's crack open a beer and take a nice hardy gulp for the Dreamcast. Cheers!!

Emulation on PC vs physical console?
I often browse craiglist and see dreamcast units for very low cost... Standard would be something like dreamcast, 2 controllers, memory + 20 games for $75 (canadian). However, I've read that there is now a pretty decent PC emulator called nullDC. My main concern would be getting things like gamepads working in the emulator. Anyone have experience with this? I have fond memories of the DC from 9 years ago or so, not sure it stands the test of time but I'd like to try it again. Thanks for...

What are the best games to 'not download'?
I'm a huge fan of Skies of Arcadia on the RPG side. I know there are TONS of Shumps, Ikaruga being the crown jewel. Marvel Vs. Capcom is still the best fighting game around. and no one should go through life without playing REZ. What other recommendations do you guys have? Dreamcast + VGA Cable = Modern Console
If you haven't heard about it, a lot of Dreamcast games support native VGA output via a special VGA adapter. You can buy them from RacketBoy's online store and it is worth every penny. Games like Soul Calibur and Jet Grind Radio look absolutely amazing in VGA. Sure it is not quite high definition and not as good looking as the current generation of consoles (disregarding the Wii), but it is good enough to let you play Dreamcast on your LCD tv without your eyes bleeding. Also, some games... Read more →
