If your Blu-ray player budget has a price ceiling then the Toshiba BDX5300 is definitely worth sticking on the shortlist. There aren’t many decks at this price that offer built-in Wi-Fi let alone access to BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Picasa and Acetrax, making it terrific value for money.

Although the Toshiba BDX5300 puts in a fine effort in terms of core features, the presence of the BBC iPlayer/Netflix, Wi-Fi and 3D Blu-ray support, there are more polished, easier to use and smarter 3D decks around. But those on a tight budget should look no further for a 3D quick fix.

Even better is the quality results the BDX5300 provides when playing Blu-ray discs. Add the 3D, Wi-Fi and Internet capabilities that are built in, and it’s hard to argue against the BDX5300 as being the first high-definition video source player to grace your home.
