Toshiba's U845t is an affordable Windows 8 laptop that offers good bang for the buck. We'll get it out of the way right now -- one area where Toshiba cut corners is the display, as Digital Trends says "the display doesn't stand out in any area." But when using the U845t you can see the benefits in this budget friendly device. PC Mag found it "sailed pass the competition" when performing tests, and Laptop Magazine says it has "fast overall performance." CNET is impressed by the U845t's battery life, saying that "any laptop that tops 6 hours is impressive, and for a $799 14-incher, that's even more impressive." It's not going to be out some of the best on the market, but for the money it's pretty hard to beat.

While it's not going to dazzle anyone, the Toshiba Satellite U845T is a great example of exactly how much laptop $799 should buy in 2013.

Zippy processing power along with a slender chassis and solid all-around performance come together in making the Toshiba Satellite U845t-S4165 worthy of serious consideration, though its limited storage capacity and so-so keyboard dampen its overall appeal.

The U845t proves how competitive the laptop market can be. The chassis is literally unchanged from the model we saw last year. Yet, with just a few changes, Toshiba has turned an adequate also-ran into a clear winner.

The Toshiba Satellite U845T-S4165 offers a lightweight design, extra long battery life and a high-quality touch screen display. We were really pleased with performance thanks to the Intel Core i5 CPU and 128GB SSD hard drive.

The addition of touch is welcome and necessary to keep Toshiba’s ultrabook lineup in competition with the wide range of touch-enabled models now arriving from Acer, Dell, and HP. We do wish that some other addition was made to distinguish it from the original Satellite 845, however.
